Rays have anti-venom for Diamondbacks in 3-hitter
After the Diamondbacks went down in order in the first, the Rays struck quickly. The first 3 batters had singles with Paul Hoke knocking in the first run. After 2 outs, Roga Rangel reached on a humpback liner into no-man's land in the infield to plate a second run. The Diamondbacks got a run back in the top of the second thanks to 2 Rays' errors sandwiched around a Mark Haynes single Then the Rays got 3 in the bottom of the inning with some help from the Diamondbacks. After a leadoff error and walk, 2 groundouts scored the first run, followed by an RBI single by Ron Lehman, and another error to bring in the final run of the inning. The rest of the game was dominated by pitching except for the Rays' fifth inning. In that inning, Eric Yoho led off with a single and moved to 3rd on a Gary Blaylock double. Lehman followed with a blast to deep center field to knock in the final 2 runs of the game.
On the mound for the Rays, Roga Rangel pitched 4 innings, only allowing an unearned run, 2 hits and a walk, while striking out 4, for the win. Phil Polakoff followed with 3 scoreless innings for the save, allowing a hit and a walk with 2 strikeouts. Ron Lehman led the Rays offense with 3 hits, 3 RBIs, and a run. Roga Rangel also had 3 hits and added an RBI, while Phil Polakoff added 2 hits in the victory.
