"Olson & Stanley Lead East Side Comeback"

The East Side Merchants (8-17, 5-11) capped a huge comeback thanks in large part to an outstanding performance on the mound from Brian Olson (1-3). Olson, who picked up his first victory of the '08 season, worked all 7-innings for his first complete game victory of the season. Trailing 4-0 early, the Merchants responded in the third inning with four runs of their own. Rightfielder Michael Edlefsen singled to left, Bo Stanley doubled, and Deryk Marks walked loading the bases for 3rd Basemen Jay Melson---who drove in Edlefsen from third on a line drive single to left. It was Melson's 12 RBI of the summer. Nick Sattler then reached on an infield error by the 3rd Basemen Lee Sarin allowing Stanley to come home and score. After Brian Olson struck out, Nick Vavra flew out to deep center allowing Marks to score the Merchants third run of the ball game. Leftfielder Ricky Sabo capped the third inning comeback with an RBI single of his own scoring Jay Melson from 2nd. Brian Olson did the rest retiring the final ten batters he faced, fanning four and walking only three. In the bottom half of the 6th inning Ricky Sabo reached on another infield error by the 3rd basemen Lee Sarin. Matty Grill followed with an sacrifice bunt moving Sabo into scoring position. With 1-out, Bo Stanley lined a shot down the 3rd baseline scoring Sabo and moving the Merchants in front 5-4. It was Stanley's second hit of the ball game and his ninth multiple hit contest of the year. Olson retired the side in order in the 7th, preserving the game and his first victory of the '08 season.
