Delay Worth The Wait

Tonight's game was delayed by almost an hour as the Varsity Red Storm Softball team went 10 innings with the Gorham Rams. In a close game dominated by both pitchers, the deciding run crossed the plate in the bottom of the tenth for a 2-1 victory.

Whether it was watching the Varsity girls, playing on the same field, or just something in the water, both starting pitchers for the visiting Jones & Warren and the home team Amato's Majors continued to be stingy on mound.

Danni Plummer took the hill for the green and gold. Plummer struck out the first batter, then gave up a single. Two stolen bases later despite good throws from catcher Megan Murrell with a runner on third Plummer then allowed two walks to load the bases. Baring down, Plummer retired the next two batters striking them out and getting out of the early jam unscathed.

Sophia Burnham of J & W was focused early on, striking out 6 in the first two innings before running into control problems in the third. Burnham surrendered one hit and seven walks leading to 5 earned runs on the inning.

While the Amato's Girlz struck out 10 times on the night, they weren't cheated out of good swings and making contact off one of the fastest pitchers in the league. They also showed a lot of discipline by drawing 8 walks and 4 hits on the night and wore the base paths out with 8 stolen bases,

This would be more then enough run support for Plummer on the night as she pitch 5 innings, allowing 1 hit and one unerearned run with 3 walks and an impressive 15 strikeouts for the night. While there was not much use for the leather in the field, the Amato Girlz showed their support and spirit with a new "Three Up & Three Down" chant from the infield and outfield.

The pitchers were so dominating tonight, of the possible 27 outs, 25 of them were from strikeouts! Great job ladies!
