"Shamrocks Tee Off"

The East Side Merchants (10-20, 6-13) dropped their third consecutive contest on Friday night to the red-hot Shamrocks. After winning four out of their previous five, the Merchants have fell flat losing three in a row while being outscored 25 to 9 during that span. The Merchant offense, however, was in full force on Friday evening. The Merchants rallied for an early score in the top half of the first before coming back with three in the fifth. The Merchants scorched out nine hits in only five innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome a massive deficit. Deryk Marks continued his offensive dominance by blasting his team-leading 5th homerun of the season, a solo shot to leftfield, in the three-run 5th inning. The solo shot now gives Marks the most single season homeruns by an East Side Merchant since Dave Rueber hit seven back in '04. Aside from Mark's heroics, Friday night marked the the third time this season the Merchants have been ten-runned before the 6th-inning. The East Side Merchants are back in action tomorrow evening against Commanding Edge, thus wrapping up their regular season schedule before entering the Saint Paul League double-loss elimination tournament beginning on Tuesday July 27th at Dunning Stadium.
