Finally...............Softball Weather
Nice weather and unusual timing made for an interesting game. Rookie Jamie Dillon took the hill for the home team Amato's Majors and did well for only her 2nd inning of pitching for the season. 5 walks and 3 errors lead to 4 runs for the Volk Packaging club. Mary Farnkoff lead the way in the bottom half of the first with her first of three passes on the evening, swiping to bases and scoring twice on the night.
Dani Plummer nursing a muscle pull came in for relief in the 2nd and held the Volk Blue & White to 2 runs over the next 3 innings as she allowed 1 hit and 5 walks & 6 K's. The Green and Gold Amatos crew down 4 run again, chipped away with 3 more of their own in the bottom half of the 2nd on 4 walks and a 2 RBI single by Anna Driscoll. While the home team had good pitching, the defense played extremly well over the final 4 innings with 4 put outs at first base and the leagues quickest catcher Chandra LaBonte hustling to the backstop 3 seperate times to coral wild pitches to toss it to the awaiting pitcher covering the plate to tag out 3 would be runs for outs.
With the score now 7 to 6 in favor of Amato's, the home team took advantage of 4 free passes and two timely hits. A 2 RBI base knock by Grace Bailor and a RBI double by Plummer to score the 5 run inning maximum.
Megan Murrell came in for the final 2 innings working her windmill delivery for the first time on the season surrendering 2 runs, (1 earned) on 3 walks 1 K and inducing 4 ground ball outs to end the game.
Game notes: Murrell throwing out a would base stealer at 2nd from the catching position. LaBonte 2 BB SB, Chelsea Hughes 2 BB, SAC and 2 SB, Dominique Caron BB and a SB with a great slide into 3B on a close play, Julia Walker taking one for the team (HPB) then stealing a base and scoring a run, Tori Hale 2 BB, SB and her 11th Birthday! - Happy Birthday Tori!!
