Barons Win 3-0 In Home Opener Shutout
Luke Hahey went 2-3 with a double and a run scored in the first inning. He was plated on Kevin Marthinsen's single, giving the Barons their first lead of the season! Marthinsen went 3-3 on the day. Louie Ridgeway added two hits and a run scored. Morgan Schmitt and Ridgeway both singled in the second before being driven home on a two out double to left field by Rob Costantino. Solid defense and hard work by the Barons pitching staff kept the shutout in order. Sol Averbach got the start before Sean Kealey releived and threw 5 more scoreless innings. They combined for four strikeouts and pitched their way out of two bases loaded jams in the first and third innings. In the bottom of the 5th, Kealey worked out of a no-outs, 2 men on base situation in which he struck out two, and made a incredible stop on a come backer up the middle in which he threw to first for the out. Joe Zufall came in from left field to close the game in the 7th to pick up the save. The Barons tallied 10 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, 3 RBIs and a stolen base while leaving 5 men stranded. South Park had 6 hits, 4 walks, and left 10 men on base paths.
