Mercy Me!
Not only was the temperature hot today (low 90's), but so were the Amato's Majors! These Girlz were bound and determined not to let the Volk Blue & White avenge a 12 - 6 loss earlier this week. While the heat appeared to sap some of the ladies spring in their step, they stepped up to the plate tonight ready for a game.
Volk's top pitcher took the hill this evening unable to pitch last game her sights were set. While she pitched well, the Green and Gold honed in on the strikes she was throwing and put up a 4 spot in the first drawing first blood.
Megan Murrell starting for Amato's pitched well also allowing 3 unearned runs in the bottom half on a few overthrows. Murrell's pitching line was 2 IP, 3 runs, 2 hits allowed, 3 BB and 2 K's.
The hit parade continued for the Girlz in the top of the second scoring 5, then 3 in the third and another 5 in the top of the fourth. The Green and Gold tallied a whopping 13 hits on the night. Anna Deiscoll, Murrell, Grace Bailer, Tori Hale, Julia Walker and Chelsea Hughes collecting a pair each. Hughe's had a big knock with a stand up double in the 3rd.
Chandra Labonte drew 3 free passes, Mary Farnkoff collected a pair and had the teams first sacrifice bunt for the season. Farnkoff also took the mound for the last two innings allowing 1 earned run, 1 hit and retiring the last 5 batters in order closing down Volk for the night as the Mercy Rule was enforced ending the game after 4 full innings.
Other game notes: Of the 32 plate appearences the Girlz had tonight. 26 of them reached base. The 6 that didn't reach base were 1 ground out and only 5 strike outs! AMAZING!!!
