Light Scoring, Light Hitting, 20 Minutes Under the Lights

The Amato's Majors hosted the Jones and Warren club in a late start to play under the lights this evening. With the late start and a clear sky, this left a low angle sunlight right in the eyes of the first baseman which played a factor in the first inning. Megan Murrell took the hill inducing 2 ground balls that turned into errors at 1st base as the only thing she could see were spots after the ball based allowing the runner to advance. Chandra LaBonte behind the plate nailed a base runner at 3B trying to steal and with a great tag by Grace Bailor sent her to the bench.. A Strikeout, 2 walks and one more K limited the damage to just 1 run.

Sophia Burnham of J & W's top pitcher took the mound, pitching a complete game allowed 1 run in the bottom half of the first on 2 BB and a RBI single by M. Murrell. J & W scored another in the top of the 2nd finishing Murrell's night on the mound until late season call up Abby Murrell took the rock and pitched the next two innings. The young Murrell was impressive in her debut allowing 1 run on 5 walks, no hits and two strikeouts.

Dani Plummer came in the top of the 5th, collecting 6 K's allowing 1 run on 2 hits and one BB giving J & W a slim lead. The bottom of the 5th Chelsea Hughes collected her 2nd walk on the night, swiped 2nd base, advanced to 3B on a wild pitch, and then scored on a close play at home after a passed ball got by the catcher to tie the game.

The two pitching aces on the mound for the 6th made quick work of the inning, but not quite quick enough as a delay during the game waiting for the lights to turn on, and the "wrath" of a Mom on a school night (as the Little League time limit had expired) the game ended in a draw 4 to 4.

Game Notes: Julia Walker put the ball in play in both her at bats, collecting an RBI off a very tough pitcher. Hughes with 2 walks, Anna Driscoll put the ball in play twice as well with a stolen base and run scored. Tori Hale had two great at bats, one, laying down a great base hit bunt which set up a run.

Defensively, other then the sun in the eyes of the first baseman, A Murrell had 2 assists from the mound, a pop up caught at 2B by Jamie Dillon, a line drive caught by Hale, 2 caught stealers by LaBonte, a diving tag to catch a thief at home plate by M. Murrell made this an outstanding game for the girls as these efforts and the outfield backing up each base showed how much they were into the game.

Side note: The GIRLZ were in exceptional voice tonight with cheers and support of one another. Tonight's league record brings them to 8 - 0 - 1 (still undefeated and targets of the rest of the league).
