Amtato's Advances in a Late Night Thriller

There are 3 constants in this reporters experience with Scarborough Little League Seasons 1) It rains too much 2) Expect the schedule to change on short notice and 3) Softball teams get bumped from softball fields for other sports. This week (and it's only Tuesday) had all three things happen. Monday's last regular season game was rained out and canceled. Playoffs moved up a week to start tonight (due to a scheduling snafu), and the field we were "scheduled" to play on had been booked to a soccer team and force the softball teams to find another field.

Someone once said when you get lemons, make lemonade. The game was delayed to the 114 field until the completion of the other semi final game where the Volk Packaging team squeaked out a 2 - 1 victory of Jones & Warren in extra innings. A thrilling and heartbreaking game all in one event. Well played by all the girls. This delay afforded some team bonding, and allowed the 2nd semi final game to be played under the lights on a nice evening.

Dani Plummer took the mound for the Amato's Majors and pitched well till she game up her first and the only hit Community Builders would get in the top of the 4th inning. The line drive caught Plummer in the ankle forcing her to leave the gave with the score 5-0 in favor of the Green & Gold. Plummer's line 3IP 0 Runs, 3BB, 5K's and 1 hit.

Community Builders took advantage of the Amato's ace departure as they were able score 11 runs in the next 3 innings tying the game utilizing 16 walks. While there were quite a few walks allowed, the Murrell sisters, Abbie & Megan did a valiant job in holding the Builders to just tying the game.

Defense was the name of the game for both teams. The Amato's GIRLZ continued to put the ball in play and run the bases at a dizzying pace that resulted in 12 stolen bases for the Green & Gold and 12 assist and 9 put outs for the Community Builders squad.

Community Builders hung in the whole game and played well defensively. Tying the game in the top of the 6th inning. Jamie Dillon lead off the bottom half of the inning, and drew her second free pass of the night putting the potential winning run on first. After a pitch, Dillon stole second. Chandra LaBonte stepped into the box looking to advance or drive in the game winning run. A wild pitch put the game ending run on third. The next pitch LaBonte drove into left center for a sure extra base hit, but settled for the single and game winning RBI.

Offensive notes: M Murrell 3-4 with 3RBI's and 3 SB. Mary Farnkoff with 3 runs, and 2 SB, Tori Hale with 2 hits, 3 runs and a great bunt. Labonte with a stand up tripple and 2 RbI's on the night. Grace Bailer with 2 great base hit bunts and 2 runs scored. Anna Driscoll with 2 SB and a base hit. Dom Carron, A Murrell, Julia Walker and Plummer combined to put the ball in play 7 for 7 times with good plays made against them.

Deffensive Notes: Catchers M. Murrell and LaBonte each threw out a would be base stealers. Green and Gold had 9 put outs and 8 assists of their own.

Another great game! Thank you to everyone, but especially all the Mom's and Dad's for allowing us to play tonight.
