No Rain on this Parade

The Amato's Majors hosted the Volk Packaging Majors for the Scarborough Girls Softball Championship.Despite the rain, nothing was going to stop the winning ways of the Amato's GIRLZ as Dani Plummer took the hill for the Green and Gold pitching 4 innings taking control in the first three innings allowing only 1 earned run.

In the bottom half of the 1st, the defending champs set the tone early offensively by scoring the 5 run maximum followed by 3 in the second, and another 5 in the third to take a 13 to 1 lead.

Plummer took a couple innings off to rest a sore ankle from the previous playoff game with Mary Farnkoff and Abbie Murrell filling in, each collecting 2 K's apiece. Farnkoff threw a lot of strikes, but the Volk club did not want to go quietly capitalizing on 3 hits and 3 walks in the inning scoring 5 in the 4th bringing the score to 13 -6. A Murrell kept the visitors at bay with the help of catcher and big sister Megan Murrell as she threw out a base runner attempting to steal second base ( her 6th on the season). Plummer came back in the top of the 6th as the rain continued to come down. A combination of 2 innings off, and the wet conditions resulted in a little control difficulties as the first three batters scored on 1 error, 4 walks and one HPB a strikeout was recorded for the first out. An aggressive Volk base runner tried repeating the winning ways from their semi final win by trying a delayed steal of home but was thrown out but the attentive Plummer, M Murrell battery mates for the second out. The next batter grounded out to Plummer retiring the batter at first for the final out of the game.

Offensive notes: Farnkoff 2-3 with a stolen base. Plummer reached base 4 times. M Murrell also on base 4 times that included 2 base hits and 2 RBI's and 2 stolen bases. Chandra LaBonte reached base 4 times and had a 2 RBI double.
Grace Bailor put the ball in play all 4 at bats with one hit. Tori Hale had an RBI single. Julia Walker had an RBI. Dominique Carron had a single and scored a run. Chelsea Hughes collected 2 walks and scored twice with a stolen base. Jamie Dillon had a walk and scored once. Anna Driscoll had an RBI single and scored a run.

All but one girl reached base and scored at least once. That's AMAZING!!!! What a balanced team!

Defensive notes: Only 2 errors on the night on close plays. A heads up catch by Farnkoff in the middle of the infield. Plummer with 4 assist. LaBonte with coverage of 2nd base tagging a runner out by a great throw form M Murrell. Great back up of 3rd base by left fielder Walker.
