Big Win

The York Diamonds completed a successful week by defeating the Oakville Dodgers 12-0 on Sunday. York had earlier trounced the Streetsville Colt 45's 12-3 on Thursday and lost to the Mississauga A's 8-4 on Wednesday.
The A's got good pitching from Jay Thachuk and Osvaldo Diaz en route to the win. York starter Chetan Gandhi took the loss and was followed by a very effective Dan Fiorita. Steve Foley had 3 hits, including his second home run and Paul Freeman snapped his 0-26 slide with a blooper down the right field line. Donald Feng homered for the A's, as did Victor Miranda, who also contributed 3 singles. A rare appearance by Diamonds reclusive former centrefielder Rob "Grizz" Fraser was not enough to snap the team out of its slump.

Against the Colts, the York bats finally awakened as Eric Foley threw a gem, going the distance and striking out 8. Diamonds' nemesis Steve Pepi took the loss. Greg Shannon, Steve Foley, Eric Foley, Bob Corn, and Mark Lombard all had 2 hits to aid the York cause.

Mike Rochon was the story in the win over the Dodgers as he threw a complete game one hitter and added 2 RBI singles to help himself. Rochon also took a rather funny tumble into the dirt after lashing a line drive through the legs of the Dodgers' first baseman. Rochon quickly gathered himself, his apples, and his cucumbers and motored to first, just beating the throw in from the outfield. Brent Sterling playing before thousands of adoring family and friends contributed 3 hits and several "sterling" defensive plays. Gimpy-hamstringed leftfielder Paul Freeman finally busted out of a massive slump with 3 singles, 2 RBI's and a walk. After the game Freeman was pleading with Diamonds' stretching afficionado John Raddi to "please help me pull my other hamstring, it will really help the ballclub". Pete Zakkak also contributed 3 RBI's in a rare appearance away from the friendly confines of Keelesdale Park. Dan Fiorita performed admirably in his first game behind the plate and also looked good in his one switch-hitting appearance. Steve Foley, powered by his pregame snack of mineral water and @Smarties smashed a double off the fence. After the game the Killer F's --Fiorita, Freeman, and Foley enjoyed a refreshing Grape @Freezie from a local establishment. Kudos to Andre Contreras who risked life and limb to make it to the game, and to Bob Corn who played in 12 games in the previous 3 days but still made it out to support the team and play if needed. Next game is Thursday at home vs the A's.
