Foley Bangs 4 Doubles
The York Diamonds rolled to a 13-2 win over the Mississauga Falcons last night. Mike Rochon got the win with 4 strong innings on the mound, and Dan Fiorita and Ken Dicken pitched three scoreless frames to complete the game. Mark Kirkey took the loss for the Falcons and was let down by some questionable defense.
Offensively York had 17 hits, as rookie supersub Steve Foley doubled in all 4 plate appearances and knocked in 2 runs. Pete Zakkak had 2 hits and 4 RBI and Bob Corn had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Eric Foley also pitched in with 2 hits. Defensive gems were turned in by Neil Parekh, Don Cantwell, Dan Fiorita, and Jeff Hofstetter.
The mysterious 'Keelesdale Goose Flu' reappeared and felled 3 members of the Diamonds, as Bob Corn ripped the IV out of his arm to make sure he got to the game on time and Rudy Naraine and Paul Freeman were also feeling the effects of the mysterious KGF. Normally media-shy Eric Foley approached the podium and uttered a brief statement that read "First my damn pinky is almost severed in a freak boating accident and now that darn Goose Flu has reappeared, what more could happen to this team...we must be cursed." Foley then scurried away from the media throng of 168 to get back to his basement to continue his career as a ghostwriter for a series of motivational books aimed at infants and toddlers.
Manager Dave Quennell then hustled up to the microphones wearing his game day gear of loafers, slacks, and a polo shirt and had these memorable comments "Uh, uh, we looked good tonight" before leaving to search for the team's AWOL hat order.
Next fun-filled Diamonds affair will be next Thursday night versus the expansion Brampton Knights at 7:30...special promo will be York backup utilityman Steve Foley discussing his exciting new miniseries entitled "My Week in Bradenton with Stubby".
