Cowboys shut out Giants
The Cowboys opened their season in an impressive fashion today as they defeated the Giants by a final score of 19-0. The Cowboys took the opening kick off and needed only two plays to reach the Giant 25 yard line, unfortunately that is where they would fumble the ball away, ending their first possession. The Giants promptly drove the ball to the Cowboy 29, but that would be as close to the end zone that they would get all day. The Cowboys defense stepped up and forced the Giants to turn the ball over on downs back at the Cowboy 42. The two teams traded possessions for the rest of the half and went to intermission tied at zero.
The Boys did not take long to create the first turnover of the second half, as #9 Mitchell forced, and recovered, a fumble on the kick off. The Cowboys took over at the Giant 36 yd line and needed only one play to take their first lead of the season. #5 Reason took the snap and weaved his way through the Giant defense and into the end zone. Reason added the PAT and the Cowboys led 7-0.
The Cowboys got the ball right back on the ensuing kickoff, as the team executed a perfect onside kick, with Mitchell recovering at the Cowboy 48. Once again, they needed only one play to reach pay dirt, a 52 yard TD run by Reason gave the Boys a 13-0 lead as the quarter expired.
The final score of the game came on a 35 yard interception return for a TD by none other than #5 Reason. The score made it 19-0, the team would once again miss the PAT, but the game was decided.
The Cowboys were lead on defense by #2 Osborne, #9 Mitchell, and a host of other Cowboys who gave the Giants no running room all night. The defense swarmed the Giants and allowed a total of minus 2 rushing yards on 24 attempts. The Cowboys were led offensively by Reason, who rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only 6 rushes. Both teams were 0-for-1 passing with an INT on the game.
The Cowboys will take the field again next Saturday when the square off against the 0-1 Broncos.
