October 24, 2009 – The Cowboys used a great team effort today to defeat the Giants by a score of 31-6. For the second game in a row, Mike Reason opened the game by returning the kickoff for a touchdown. Today’s return went for 70 yards. The PAT failed, leaving the score at 6-0 Cowboys. The Giants took their first possession of the game and drove down the field and punched the ball in from five yards out. The Giants PAT also failed, leaving the game tied at 6-6. After another great kick return of 26 yards by Reason, the Cowboys set up shop at the Giant 46 yard line. Greg Worth did not waste any time giving the Cowboys the lead, as he rushed 46 yards for the score on the Cowboys first offensive play of the game. The PAT was once again no good, the Cowboys led 12-6. The Giants put together another impressive drive on their second possession of the game, but turned the ball over on downs at the Cowboy nine yard-line. The Cowboys marched 91 yards on 9 plays, capping the drive with a 5 yard run by Reason on the final play of the first half. After yet another failed PAT the Cowboys held the lead at halftime, 18-6.
Things did not improve for the Giants in the second half. On the second half kickoff, the Giants did not field the ball cleanly and DeAndre Osborne beat the receiving team to the football. The Cowboys took over at the Giant 39 yard line. After a fumbled snap on first down, Mike reason took the handoff and raced 40 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the day. The Cowboys once again failed to convert the PAT, but the lead was now at 18. After a solid kickoff by Markeuz Slade, the Giants once again bobbled the kick and had to fall on the ball at the 31 yard-line. On first down the Giants fumbled the ball and the Cowboys took over at the Giant 28 looking to put the nails in the coffin. After two miscues the Cowboys faced third and 22 from the Giant 40. Greg Worth hit Reason out of the backfield with a pass and Reason raced 40 yards for the score. This time the PAT was good with Reason running the ball for the one-point conversion, giving the Cowboys a 31-6 lead. The Giants mounted one last drive, moving the ball to the Cowboy 25. On third and thirteen the Giants threw a pass that was picked off by Jalen Mitchell at the 10. Mitchell returned the ball to the Giant 27, but the return was called back due to the fact that Mitchell is over the weight limit to carry the football. The Cowboys moved the ball out to the 40 yard line with 1:06 to go in the game. The Giants coach called the game, rather than finishing the contest. The Cowboys had delivered many, many huge hits with great blocking and the coach had seen enough. With the win, the Cowboys clinched the #1 seed in the playoffs as they moved to 3-0 on the season. The Giants fell to 2-2 and will be the #2 seed and will host the Broncos (0-3) in round one of the playoffs. In three games this season, the Cowboys have outscored their opponents 72-12. The Boys will finish up regular season play next Saturday at 4pm when they take on the Broncos. The first meeting between the two teams this year resulted in a 22-6 Cowboys win. If the team can win the second meeting they will finish the regular season undefeated.
