The Misfits opened the fifth season in franchise history with a convincing 7-2 win over Yard Sale. The team, with 4 new additions, got off to a hot start. Vinny Budano and Rob Del Muro scored goals less than a minute apart and 3:06 into the game, the Misfits led 2-0. 6 minutes later, the two connected to put he lead to 3. Del Muro won a face-off clean to Vinny Budano, whose shot from the point was deflected in the top of the slot by Del Muro, and we had a 3-0 game. The second period wasn't as fun and successful. Yard Sale scored twice on just 6 shots to get within 1 goal. The Misfits, however, took advantage of a 4 minute power play, scoring on both ends to retake control of the game. Brandon Bellaire scored his first career Misfits goal, followed by Chris Del Muro's first of the season, and the 3 goal lead was back. Hoops Henrich added his first career goal with the squad, and Rob completed the hat trick for a 7-2 final. The Misfit defense was great all night, clearing the puck, keeping bodies out of goalie Mike Tuna's way, as they let up just 11 shots in the first 2 periods (21 overall). Newcomer Tom Henrich and d partner and son, Hoops fit right in with the team in the win. Peter Gortaire added two assists from the blue line. The win puts the Misfits at 1-0, if you couldn't figure that out, knowing it was the first game. Their next contest is Thursday, Oct. 27 at 10:30 at Parkwood in Great Neck. SCORING SUMMARY 1.
