The Brewers and Swarm would meet in their season opener, with the Brewers looking to repeat as champion, and the Swarm looking to avenge their playoff semifinal loss to the Brewers. Alex Borowick would open the scoring for the Swarm, with a wrister from the dot as he sped down the left wing, his off wing. The Brewers would quickly respond with a Brewer from Mark Esposito, but the Swarm would go ahead with Borowick from Steve Romano, after he would whack in on a rebound. The Swarm would double their lead when their Captain, Patrick Stehn, would go high from Ed Stulak, for the final goal of the first period, which would end 3-1 Swarm. The first period shot totals were 14-11 Swarm. Steve Romano would begin the second period by being naughty and committing a tripping infraction, but Stehn would organize his hive of Swarm pals to kill off the Brewers' power play, freeing Romano with the score remaining the same. But Romano would redeem himself with a snipe as he would notch point number three of the evening, and his first goal, for 4-1 Swarm. The game would hold firm at 4-1 for a while, but with a pair of quick goals, Stulak unassisted, and Borowick, finishing his hat trick from Frank "The Tank" Bason, the Swarm would go up 6-1. The Beer Makers would peel off the second period's final goal, with Esposito, and it would go into the third period 6-2 Swarm, with the shot totals now 26-22 Swarm. The Brewers would not go down without a fight, and claw closer when one of the Brewers would finish just inside the blue line from Esposito, but the Swarm would dig in and not allow them to further trim the gap. Instead, Borowick would fly down the left wing, while Beuk Forrest would jolt down the slot, in what was a 2-on-1, with Borowick hitting the streaking Forrest, who only had to guide a pinpoint laser of a pass in, for 7-3. Forrest was now taking over, and would score the next goal when he utilized his shifty dekes, but the Brewers would cancel that out with Matt Madorma from Ralph Bowen and Captain Greg Shiff. Forrest would follow this with his hat trick goal from Steve Norman, then the night would be capped off by Romano from Stulak and Norman, in what was a 10-4 win for the Swarm, outshooting the Brewers 36-33. The Stateside Tap + Tavern Man of the Match Award was won by Alex Borowick (3G, 1A), Steve Romano (2G, 2A), and Beuk Forrest (3G).
