Green Brook and the Pterodactyls would continue their rivalry on opening night, and it would be a battle of goaltenders: Nuno Costa of Green Brook, and Jeff Leidner of the Pterodactyls. Costa would rob Big Tony Gesumaria, who was sure he had the entire net, but a diving glove save by the Berets netminder would deny him. On the other end, Leidner would utilize his pads on Pat Perez, and it would carry on 0-0. Eventually Green Brook would crack Leidner when Joe DeLorenzo would go high from Christian Solis, for the only goal of the first period, which would end 1-0 Berets on goals, and 12-7 Berets on shots. The second period would see the Pterodactyls level it when Gene Carrigan would go just inside the post with his wrist shot, for an early period goal and 1-1. Ethan Lim was having a whale of a game for the Pterodactyls, carving up the Berets whenever he could, but Costa wasn't yielding to him; there was nearly an exception to this when, last in the period, Lim would rush down the left wing and hit the post, but still Costa wouldn't surrender to the 'Dactyl. Immediately after nearly falling behind, Green Brook would go ahead with Dean Moakler from Christian Solis, and would take all the momentum into the third period, as the Pterodactyls went from nearly one end of the spectrum to the other, down 2-1. The shot totals were 32-14 Green Brook, who outshot the Pterodactyls 20-7 in the second period. Leidner was to be commended, even though he would surrender the period's only goal, because his play was the reason why the Pterodactyls were in it, down by just that one goal. A little bit of life would come from the Pterodactyls when they would execute a fine breakout, but it would only end in another Costa save when he would engulf a puck from Chris LaTourette, who was in tight quarters when he would fire on target. Leidner would match Costa in this third period, at least for the time being, as neither team would budge and the scoreline would remain 2-1. It would appear as if the Pterodactyls would have to pull Leidner for the extra attacker, but before they could get to that point, they would conced to Green Brook, when Ilya "The Labrador" Labutin would finish from Darren Kamikura. Now 3-1, the life was mostly sucked out of the game, with the buzzer approaching, hitting with the score holding for a 3-1 Green Brook win. The final shot totals were Green Brook 42, Pterodactyls 29, with Nuno Costa winning the Stateside Tap + Tavern Man of the Match Award (28 saves on 29 shots (96.5% save percentage)). Hono(u)rable mention goes to Jeff Leidner, who had 39 saves on 42 shots (92.8% save percentage).
