When Rich Schlosser would fire a slap shot from the point, Andy "The Grizzly" Bear would deflect it in for 1-0 Minotaur. It was a first period that would be low on shots, but with one of their shots, the Phantoms would level it when Brian Buonomo would go pipe an in. The period would end 1-1, but Minotaur would lead on shots 6-4. The second period would begin with a goal by Chris "The Kazmanian Devil" Kazlauskas, when he parked himself in front of the Minotaur net and whack in after Buonomo would feed him from the corner, below the goal line. The Phantoms would follow this with Buonomo unassisted on a breakaway, and Kevin Inglis would further increase the Phantoms' lead when he would slap in. Now 4-1, the Phantoms would go short handed when Brian Buonomo would be assessed a rough, and Phil Meade would be assessed unsportsmanlike conduct. During their two man advantage, Minotaur would notch one with Darrell Blackbourn from Bill James, and it would now be 4-2, as they would try and come back in the third. The shot totals would now be 12-11 Minotaur, and that comeback would begin with a goal by John Beatrice from Darrell Blackbourn. Now 4-3 Phantoms, their lead would be gone when a power play goal, after Phil Meade's cross check, by Blackbourn from Jeff Dugan would make it 4-4, and then Minotaur would go up 5-4 with Dugan from Blackbourn. Blackbourn would complete his hat trick for 6-4, but the Phantoms would halve their deficit with Brian Buonomo's hat trick goal. Hoping for an equalizer, the Phantoms would pull their goalie for the extra attacker, but it would not be enough, as Dugan would wrist the puck from inside his own blue line for an empty net goal, in what would be a 7-5 Minotaur win. Minotaur would outshoot the Phantoms 19-16. The Stateside Tap + Tavern Man of the Match Award was won by Darrell Blackbourn (3G, 2A), and Jeff Dugan (3G, 1A).
