Ooff! would come into this game in first place and would hope to extend their lead over the Hooligans. The Bulldogs, while currently in fifth, have played two fewer games than everyone else, and with the maximum of six points in those games, including a major scalp over Ooff!, they would be right in the thick of things for the race for first. The first period would belong to the Bulldogs, who would end it up 2-0 with some pristine puck movement: First, Mike Ciampi would go high unassisted, then Phil Karnicki would finish from Jonathan Greenspan on an odd-man rush. Ooff! would generate 18 shots on Bulldogs netminder Joseph Ursino, but he would meet the call every time, ensuring his K-9 Unit Pals would go into the second period with zero goals against. On the other end, Dean Bogner would do well to keep Ooff! only down two, stopping 10 of the 12 shots he would face, including highway robbery with his glove on one occasion. The second period would be a 0-0 stalemate, largely due to both Ursino and Bogner, but also due to stout neutral zone play. The few times an opportunity would be there, each goalie would come up big, and it would go into the third period still at 2-0 Bulldogs, but with shots at 25-22 Ooff!. Ooff! would have to overcome a two goal deficit if they were to get anything out of this game, but they would remain down 2-0 as the clock wound down. Ursino would continue to stop all pucks, but the Bulldogs would be unable to put Ooff! away on the other end, with another goal. Eventually, the persistence of Ooff! would pay off, when, with 1:38 to go, they would crack through with Nicole Terpak low. Ooff! would now have the confidence that they could beat Ursino, and would do so again when Ray Sarlo would fire a puck frome the point, which would be stopped, but Chris Fagan would whack in the rebound for 2-2. Fagan's goal would come 38 seconds after Terpak's, and Ooff! would ride that into overtime, with an opportunity to take two points after it would look like it would be a zero point night for them. The shot totals would now be 37-32 Ooff!. Overtime would begin with Bogner making some more great saves, but Ursino would match him. Back and forth it would go, with neither team able to get the game winner, until Michael Costello would let loose a cannon from the point, which would find the back of the net after it would go through a screen, for a 3-2 Ooff! overtime win. The Stateside Tap + Tavern Man of the Match Award was won by Dean Bogner (34 saves on 36 shots); Honorable mention would go to Joseph Ursino (36 saves on 39 shots).
