Games tonight, July 16

The online schedule was incorrect. All games, EXCEPT FOR MAKEUP GAMES, showing to be played tonight (7/16) are actually scheduled for tomorrow night (7/17). The website is now accurate. HSA apologizes for the confusion.

Chuck McGurran, long-time HSA softball field maintenance guy, passes away.

Chuck McGurn, Helena Softball’s long time and current maintenance person, passed away unexpectedly on July 5.  Chuck was a fixture at Batch Fields for over 25 years.  Taking “ownership” of the fields Chuck was always available at any time of day to make sure the “games could go on” and the garbage was picked up.  Maybe it was his love of the Yankees that contributed to his love of the game and our fields.  He wore out a few seats on “his” Toros dragging those fields.  Chuck preached that you don’t broom or push the water off a field.  Let nature (sun and wind) take its course.  And when it was needed many a time he stood in the middle of a puddle pumping water to get the fields ready to go. On his own he would drive to Three Forks to haul talc back to Helena for lining the fields.  After every rain storm he would be there checking the fields.  Before the storm even hit he was there tining up the fields so they could take the water.  Chuck cared.  He loved people and his family.  We will miss him.  Our prayers and support go out to his family.  They will need our help.  Please bear with us while we work through his absence.
