Game Recap:
The 2017 Granite State Baseball League All-Stars took the field at beautiful Concord Memorial Stadium to play the annual midsummer league all-star game. The all-stars managers for the game were last year’s league champions; GSBL21 Nashua Eagles’ Tyler Bonin and GSBL28 Granite State IronPigs manager Aaron Wovkanech.
Team Bonin would score the 8-5 win, taking a huge lead early and holding off a late-charging Team Wovkanech.
Nashua Eagle SS Ray Roman was named the 2017 GSBL All-Star MVP with a 2 for 2 performance, a walk, 2B, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.
Team Bonin started the scoring early in the first inning with Eagles’ leadoff hitter Ray Roman scored on Seacoast Braves’ Luis Valdez’s fielder choice after the shortstop slipped in trying to turn the double-play. Team Bonin continued the scoring in the third inning on a Black Sox’s Steve Gable doubled that plated fellow Black Sox Brian Antonucci, who stole third, and Eagles’ Aneylo Roman.
Team Bonin extended the lead to 7-0 with 4 more runs in the fourth inning, which included a two-run double by Ray Roman and RBIs by the Braves duo of Joe Gallant and Valdez.
Eagles’ Anyelo Roman’s and Black Sox Nik Beeson’s pitching stifled Team Wovkanech’s hitters for 4 innings, going 2 innings each, allowing 1 hit and combining for 3 strikeouts, a walk and 2 hits batsmen by Roman.
Team Wovkanech finally broke through in the fifth inning, when Red Sox Donny Bourassa blasted a 2B to deep left-center and eventually scoring on a wild pitch.
Team Wovkanech closed the gap to 7-5 with 3 runs in the seventh inning and another in the eighth inning. The seventh inning rally began with IronPigs’ Nick Vaughns leading off with a walk and a Bombers’ Danny Cruz single. After the Royals’ Griffin LaFluer reached on a fielder’s choice and IronPigs’ Omar Ortiz walked to load the bases. Team Bonin failed to a turn the 6-4-3 double-play on a Royals’ Jake Kleckner’s grounder, which plated Vaughns and LaFleur, who raced from second base to score -- catching Team Bonin off guard.
Padres Ryan Bowie added a double, sending Kleckner home to make it 7-4. The Padres’ Brad Backowies scored on an error in the 8th inning.
Team Bonin added an insurance run in the 9th inning on an infield miscue, which scored the Astros’ Lou Faulkner. Lincoln A’s Ryan Schofield closed out the ninth, striking out 2 to pick up the save.

2013 GSBL All Star Game - Black All Stars 3 Blue All Stars 4
The 2013 GSBL All-Star Game was played on Wednesday, July 17th at Historic Holman Stadium in Nashua with the Blue All Stars winning over the Black All Stars by a score of 4-3. Merrimack Dodgers SS Todd Robichard led off the top of the 3rd inning with a walk followed by a single from the bat of Manchester Eagles Tim Page. With runners at 1st and 2nd and one out, ManchVegas Phillies OF James Kenney drove in the first run of the game with a base hit single to right. Nashua Swindlers OF Austin Fontanella followed with another single. Followed by a RBI single from Nashua Rockies SS TJ Sheedy. Nashua Rockies slugger Jeff Hastings ended the scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly to left center to plate Kenney.
The Black defense became a little shaky in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning when errors allow 4 Blue All Star unearned runs to score. In the bottom of the sixth inning and error allowed Newmarket Nationals 3B Andrew Riotto to get to 1B. Riotto then stole 2nd and Epping Red Sox SS Curtis Brown drove him in on a single to left. In the seventh inning with one out, Epping Red Sox OF Bryan Marcoux stuck out but was able to reach first on a passed ball. With two outs, Seacoast Braves C Joe Gallant was struck by a pitch. Lincoln A's P/OF Ryan Scholfield singled in Marcoux. New London Cardinals 3B Travis Pelletier hit into a fielder's choice allowing Gallant to tie the game at 3-3. Black Sox P Tony Bolduc singled in Pelletier for the go ahead run.
Defense determined the outcome of the game and the Ben Davis Sabermetrics system recorded an rtz (Total Runs Field Zone Above Average) of 3 for New London Cardinals 2B Rickey Gaudreault. In combination with his 1-1 at the plate, Gaudreault was named the game's MVP.
