Rule Changes for 2014

Please see a summary of the major rule changes for 2014.

#1 – still tbd – distance for OF positioning when a female is at bat.  Right now we default to the 30 yards behind deepest part of infield, which is proving hard to enforce.  We are researching marking off 175 ft from home plate, and using a permanent marker of some sort.  Haven’t gotten the chance to measure yet so we go with the old rule until we do.

#2 – Penalty for umpire catching a player moving into restricted area when a female is up, before the ball is struck, will be one base awarded, or the result of the play.  Existing baserunners will advance as needed.

#3 – Teams show up at field, 1 has 2 females other has 1.  Team that only has 1 female will take an automatic out, and will play the field with 9.  Team w/ no females plays with 9 in the field and 2 automatic outs.

#4 – Courtesy runners should be discussed before the game. Once a player is declared needing a courtesy runner, he or she cannot run for the remainder of that game. The last batted out of the same gender will constitute a courtesy runner unless you have no more runners of the same gender available. In that case it will be the last batted out regardless of gender. If the last batted out is a player who in turns needs a courtesy runner, it will go the batted out prior to that player. A player permanently exiting the game may have their substitute courtesy run for them at the time of the substitution.

#5 – game can’t end on automatic out - ENDING THE GAME: A automatic out shall not be taken if it is the last out of the last inning of the game. In that instance, the batting out is passed over without penalty. EXCEPTION 1: The batting out is a result of an ejection or a player leaving the game for any reason other than injury. EXCEPTION 2: The batting out comes up in extra innings. EXCEPTION 3: The score is tied.
