MYBL Travel Program

Attention Coaches & Parents,

MYBL had a very successful first year in our travel program last year capped off by our 5-6th grade girls team winning the 2nd Annual Berwick Bulldawg Bash. We will continue this opportunity for our young athletes interested in playing outside of our recreational league. The travel program is designed for male and female basketball players in 3rd thru 6th grade. Players interested will also go through regular league assessments, drafted, and play on a travel recreational team within MYBL. Our goal is to provide better instruction to develop basketball skills and knowledge of our young athletes.

This cannot happen without having the right coaches to lead and teach our young athletes. Each team is dependent on volunteers to coach our children. We are asking anyone interested in coaching to attend our MYBL Travel Program meeting 5:00 on Saturday September 21st at 5:00 Rice Township Pavilion. If you cannot make the meeting but are interested in coaching a travel team, please submit a letter to the MYBL board by Friday, September 27th at myblpresident22@gmail.com and mdawg1jk@hotmail.com. In your letter indicate what position (Head Coach or Assistant Coach) and the age/gender of the grade you would like to coach. Your letter should say why you should be selected and your past/present experience. The MYBL board will review all applicant letters and select coaches for each grade level.

Anyone interested must circle YES on the MYBL registration form. Tryouts for boys interested will be held from 6:00-7:00 on October 10th and girls 7:00-8:00 on October 10th at Rice Elementary. Additional signup forms for players will be at the registration table during MYBL team draft nights if you didn’t register on the MYBL registration form.

Up front cost to participate in the MYBL travel program is $50, which will cover player uniforms and practice time during the season. MYBL will pay for a local tournament of the teams choosing. Additional costs of Recreational League play and tournaments will be on the parents of each basketball player. We are doing this to keep the cost as minimal as possible to participate and practice. If possible, we will group teams according to age together for practices so that drills and scrimmages can take place.

MYBL will provide a list of local leagues and tournaments to each coach. Some of the local leagues are the Kingston Recreational league that runs January thru March, Riverfront Sports Winter Basketball League in Scranton that runs end of November thru January and the Anthracite Basketball league that runs December thru January.

We look forward continuing this new opportunity for our young basketball players! If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Kuniegel at 570-840-0299.

Thanks,

Jeff Kuniegel

MYBL Travel Program

Attention Coaches & Parents,

MYBL has and always will be dedicated to the development of our young athletes both on and off the court. We have fielded interest for our players to challenge themselves by playing in the Kingston Recreational League and tournaments. Therefore, we will be putting a program together for male and female basketball players in 4th thru 6th grade to play on travel teams this basketball season representing MYBL. Players selected will also go through regular league assessments, be drafted, and play on a travel recreational team within MYBL.

The first step in this journey is selecting the right coaches to lead and teach our young athletes. We are asking anyone interested in coaching a travel team to submit a letter to the MYBL board by Friday, October 6th at myblpresident22@gmail.com and mdawg1jk@hotmail.com. Please indicate what position (Head Coach or Assistant Coach) and the age/gender of the grade you would like to coach. Your letter should indicate why you should be selected and your past/present experience. The MYBL board will review all applicant letters and select coaches for each grade level. Each team is dependent on volunteers to coach, as we cannot do this without the help of volunteers to teach our children.

After coaches are established, we will hold open tryouts for boys interested on October 16th and girls interested on October 17th. Coaches will be present to evaluate and select their travel teams. Based off the turnout and selection of players we will determine if we need to combine age groups or not. Teams will have a maximum of 10 players. A commitment letter for players selected will be sent out to parents following tryouts. Players and parents must be committed to our philosophy, expectations, rules, and policies of the MYBL Travel Program (TBP).

MYBL will provide a portion of the funds needed for player uniforms. Each team will have practice time during the week at MYBL and Kingston Recreational during their season. If possible, we will continue to group teams according to age together for practices so that drills and scrimmages can take place. Additional costs of the Kingston Recreational League and any tournaments will be on the parents of each basketball player. MYBL will provide a list of local tournaments to play in if interested.

Understand that player development is our #1 priority. Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Thanks,

Basketball Cages at Fairview & Rice

November 28, 2008

Cages have been placed at both Fairview and Rice schools. They are locked and for MYBL use. You as coaches are entrusted with the access to these balls for use by the league. Please ensure all balls are returned and the cage is locked when you are finished. If you are not the last practice group or game group of the day, ensure the following coach plans to use the balls and she/he will lock them up. If you do not communicate with each other, err on the conservative side and lock up the balls at the end of your session. This is a service being provided by MYBL for all to use, if it gets abused or failure to comply results in no balls for the league it will be our own fault. We are all in this together. Let's all try to live by the motto, "treat everyone the way we would like to be treated."
