Minutes from May 19, 2019

Meeting was called to order by Carl Fadley at 7:00pm.
27 people representing 15 charters were present.
The minutes were read from the April meeting and approved.
Theresa Tanksley gave the Treasurers Report:
    $14,909.93 General Fund
    $  1,759.10 Scholarship Fund
Treasurers Report was approved.

Old Business:

Kelly Dowling came to speak to us and thank us for our support of the
Canton Challenger Baseball League.  There will be a 12u Tournament to benefit the Challengers on August 3-4.  Flyers and registration forms will
be on the website.

New Business:

T.J. Crawford made a motion to increase Lynn Brooks fee for scheduling, from $2.50 to $3.00 per game.  Theresa Tanksley seconded.  Motion was passed.

Mark Abbuhl let the commissioners know about new helmets without chin straps.  All SCGSA players MUST wear a chin strap.  He also asked the commissioners to remind the 8u coaches that they are responsible for 6, 7 & 8 year old young ladies.

Carl Fadley informed the league that we need an organization to step up and take over the 8u program.

     8u - June 2nd at 2:00pm - Jackson Twp. Hall
    10u - June 9th at 2:00pm - Jackson Twp. Hall
    12u - June 16th at 2:00pm - Jackson Twp. Hall

Minutes from April 28, 2019

Meeting was called to order by Carl Fadley at 7:30pm. 
31 people representing 18 charters were present.
The minutes were read from the March meeting and approved.
Theresa Tanksley gave the Treasurers Report:
    $14,461.34  General Fund
    $  1,259.10  Scholarship Fund
Treasurers report was approved.

Old Business:

Mark Abbuhl asked how the 8u coaches meeting went.  Carl explained that it went fairly well and that there were approximately 8 to 10 umpires brought in.

Carl reminded everyone that the May meeting had been moved up to May 19th due to the holiday.

New Business:

Carl thanked everyone for Volunteering their time and efforts for this season.

The Commissioners were asked to take control of their leagues.  Have coaches call them first with questions or cancellations.

Carl informed all the Commissioners in attendance that if a coach is ejected from a game twice in the season, they may be suspended from coaching in SCGSA.

Theresa Tanksley took roll call for the 14u and 18u teams.

Carl let everyone know that ALL of their paperwork had to be turned into him by Wednesday, May 1st.

Carl then explained to everyone that the attendance at meetings dropped drastically after the April meeting.  He said that we do still do things at meetings after April.

Special Notes:

Mr. Eric Scott, from Green, was in charge of scheduling this year.  The person that does the scheduling is paid a fee by the SCGSA.  Eric took his fee and donated it to the SCGSA Scholarship Fund.  Thanks to him, there will be on Extra Scholarship awarded this year.  His reasoning was, “It’s all about the Kids”!  THANK YOU ERIC SCOTT.

There will be a special guest speaker at the May 19th meeting.  One of the players from the Canton Challengers Baseball League, Kelly Dowling, would like to address the league for our support.

Minutes from March 24, 2019

Meeting was called to order at 6:00pm by Carl Fadley.
35 people representing 22 charters in attendance.
The minutes from the February meeting were read and approved.
The Treasurer’s report was read and approved:
    General Fund -           $5,379.16
    Scholarship Fund -     $1,199.10

Old Business

Carl Fadley said there will be a mandatory meeting for 8u coaches with at least 1 umpire for each charter.  Parents are welcome.
The meeting will be April 14, 2019 at 5:00pm at the Jackson Township Hall.

New Business

The May meeting has been moved up to May 19th  due to Memorial Day holiday.  Same time and place.

The New rules proposals were voted on.  The results are as follows………

    1.)  8u only - All play will stop once the ball is in the Pitching Circle.  Hash Marks will be placed between the bases as a reference point for assuming the next base.

            20 - FOR    6  - AGAINST            5 - ABSTAIN
                    Proposal Passed

    2.)  The Ball used for the 8u league will be an 11” hard ball.

            5 - FOR       24 - AGAINST       2 - ABSTAIN
                    Proposal Failed

    3.)  Metal cleats may be worn by the 14u level.

            14 - FOR       17 - AGAINST
                Proposal Failed

    4.)  14u games may start with 8 players.  Said team must take an OUT when the 9th Batter would be at the plate.

                    Proposal Passed
    5.)  Add the Pitcher to the Courtesy runner rule.

            22 - FOR      7 - AGAINST      2 - ABSTAIN

    6.)  Courtesy Runner:
        A:  The Courtesy runner will be the batter that is last to bat at the start of the inning.
        B:  The Courtesy runner will be the batter that is last to bat at that exact time in the inning.

    7.)  Once a rule has been voted down 2 consecutive years, it will be tabled for 3 years.  This rule will be retroactive.

The rules proposals that passed will be added to the SCGSA 2019 rules.

The Tournament Fees for this season are as follows:

    8u and 10u are $90.00 per team

    12u, 14u and 18u are $185.00 per team


Mark Abbuhl made the announcement that at the end of the year, he will be stepping down as 2nd Vice President in charge of rules.

Minutes from February 24, 2019 meeting

Meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M. by Ken Wiltzoch.

32 people representing 20 charters were present.

January minutes were read and approved.

Treasures report;

                      General fund $5,379.16

                      Scholarship fund $1,189.10

Old business;

Ken Wiltzoch brought up the tournament dates for a vote. The vote was as follows;

          13 for the first three weeks in June

          11 for the last 3 weeks in June

           2 abstained

The tournament dates are as follows;

           8u--June 7th thru June 9th

           10u-- June14th thru June 16th

            12u-- June 21st thru June 23rd

14u and 18u will remain the same.

Gary Henderhan read the new rule proposals. Each one was dsicussed as it was read. This was the first reading of the rule proposals. There will be a vote on them at next months meeting.

New rules to be voted on in March are as follows;

New Business;

Ken Wiltzoch handed out packets to the commissioners that were in attendance. He discussed all the materials that were inside.

Aaron Cade from Alliance asked what the league fees were for this season.

The league fees for this year are $80.00 per team.

New Philadelphia let it be known that they will not be coming back to SCGSA this year. They will forfeit their temporary charter fee.

Manchester wanted to bring only one team back into SCGSA this year. It would be a 10u team to be put into the A division. Manchester coaches were asked to leave the room while a vote was taken to approve or deny their permanent charter.

The vote was taken and results were;

          17 against

           2 for

           6 abstained

Manchester's temporary charter from last year was revoked and permanent status was voted down. They will forfeit their temporary charter fee.

Meeting was called to order at 6:05pm by Carl Fadley.

30 people representing 22 charters were present.

September 23, 2018 minutes were read and approved

Treasurer’s Report- $5,482.79 General Fund ;  $1,412.10 Scholarship Fund

 

 Old Business:

 

Mark Abbuhl read the rule changes that will have the first reading at the February meeting.  They are as follows…..

  

  • Enforcement of the SCGSA game rules at the 8u games.
  • The 8u run rule and the play being stopped when in the pitching circle.
  • Limit bases on an overthrow.
  • Possibly adapt the 10u run rule for the 8u league.
  • Add a runner advancement line between bases.
  • Hard ball versus softie ball for the 8u league.
  • Steel spikes at the 14u level.
  • Allowing 18u and 14u games to start with 8 players but having to take an automatic out for the 9th player
  • Add the pitcher to the current courtesy runner rule for the catcher and medical conditions
  • Clean up the wording to the Courtesy Runner Rule.
  • Remove the frozen runner rule when stealing at 10u on an overthrow.
  • Once a rule has been voted down two times in board meetings, the rule cannot be voted on again
  • Give the umpires more authority to enforce missing equipment rules like missing chin straps
  • At the 14u level, ALL players are required to wear face masks.
  • Adopt the dropped 3rd strike rule USA is enforcing for 10u.

 

Carl Fadley asked if there were any more suggestions.

  

  • Gary Henderhan made the suggestion of all subs must be entered by the end of the 3rd inning due to the mercy rule 

 

Carl Fadley asked for any other suggestions and there were none. Carl will bring copies of the suggestions to the February meeting.

 

New Business:

 

Carl Fadley introduced the new board members to everyone.  He informed the board that Heather Bowen was stepping down as 1st V.P. and Webmaster.  We are looking for someone to take her position.  It is a paid position.

  

Ken Wilzoch brought it up that one of the Plain Local coaches contacted him and told him he had a hand picked team of travel ball players for his 14u team.  Ken instructed him that as the Commissioner of Plain Local, he is going to have the team play up in the 18u age bracket.  Tina Haren from Louisville commended Ken on his response and for bringing it up to the board.

 

Carl Fadley brought up that the SCGSA needs to revisit the travel ball player policy.

 

 Carl Fadley will set up a meeting with all 8u coaches before the scheduling date.  It will be done sometime in March.  Parents are welcome to attend.

  

Lynn Brooks told the board that he needs more umpires.  Would like to see 10 more new umpires for this coming season.

 

Carl Fadley made the statement that the Dowling brothers were getting old and would not be around forever.

 All Classes are at Jackson Twp. Hall from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Carl Fadley told the board the dates of the County Tournaments.  They are as follows...

  • 8u Tournament - June 13-16, 2019
  • 10u Tournament- June 20-23, 2019
  • 12u Tournament - June 27-30, 2019
  • 14u Tournament - July  18-21, 2019
  • 18u Tournament - July  27-28, 2019

 

April 28, 2019 will be the Schedule Hand-Out date at
