Hitting Breakdown

A breakdown of hitting mechanics through contact

Timing Up the Pitcher

So as this drill explains, we're not just watching the velocity of the pitcher. The thing we're focusing on is at what point in the pitchers wind up are we starting our swing. Take a look

Bucket Drill

We haven't used this drill yet in our HS practices-But I love it! The important concept of this drill is to take the ball where its going. If it is inside, take it to the pull side. If it bounces outside, take it to the opposite field. If its middle middle, take it up the middle. I love it!

Trout Swing Mechanics

  • More talk about your swing watching one of the best to ever do it

Stay Connected on your Swing

  • This drill does a good job of explaining why we stay connected but it is valuable for all pitch locations-not just inside pitches
  • We use this as a tee station in our practices.

Power from the body

  • This is a drill to demonstrate where power comes from and the mechanics of a good swing. There are many disadvantages that comes with extending your arms and "looping" your swing. This is probably one of the hardest mechanics to teach in a swing. Hope this helps a little!

Tee-Swing Progression

  • This should be a part of everyday tee work.
  • A good drill to highlight the idea of getting your front foot down and getting your lower body incorporated into your swing.

What's the stride about?

  • I like this guy! He knows what he's talking about! More information about your stride!

Hitting-Back foot timing drill

  • This is a great drill demonstrating the importance of getting the front foot down for timing purposes in your swing. Late front foot usually equals being late or behind on pitches-especially pitchers with higher velocity
