Mission Statement

The Mission of the Schuyler County Youth Baseball & Softball Organization shall be to: "Foster an environment of learning and fun while promoting the ideals of sportsmanship and teamwork, emphasizing skill development and character, where we 'Don't let the fear of striking out get in our way."

The Offseason-A Season of Changes

We would like to announce some changes to our Board of Directors. After 8 years of service, including time as Vice President and the last 5 years as President, Tim Crawn has decided to step down from his Board position and focus on his family. We are profoundly grateful and thankful for his countless hours of volunteering to make this a great league for our kids, and will be able to use his leadership as a foundation to build on. We are appreciative that Tim will be able to stay involved in the league as a coach and as a parent.

Congratulations to the new Board of Directors: President-Jesse Schubmehl, Vice President-Jason Westervelt, Secretary-Craig Bianco, Treasurer-Keri Schubmehl, Facilities Manager-Keith Bubb, Head Umpire in Chief/Player Safety Coordinator-Karl Kernan, Coach’s Representative-Andrew Yessman and Softball Director-Shannon Ells. Our Coordinators are as follows: Community Liaison-Kristie Pound, Fundraising Coordinator-Lynda Kramer and Softball Coordinator-Nicole Smith.

We are actively engaged as a new Board in making some significant changes. Board members and Coordinators were given copies of by-laws to edit and revise with the intent to adopt them this off-season and install policies and procedures to more effectively run our league. We have also been tasked with creating a Mission Statement to serve as a focus and direction for where and how we want our league to proceed-and we have come up with a pretty good one. It reads: “To foster an environment of learning and fun, while promoting the ideals of sportsmanship and teamwork, emphasizing skill development and character, where we ‘Don’t let the fear of striking out get in our way.”

As a reminder, our board meetings have always been and will continue to be completely open to the public, with the opportunity for you to discuss any thoughts or concerns you may have with the league. Our next Board Meeting will be held Sunday January 11th, at 5:00pm.

The big discussion facing out board now is how we continue to focus on player development and giving our athletes the best chance to succeed in the sport. Our goal is balancing the idea that this is a recreational league, while also considering our obligation to prepare our athletes for the high school level and making those teams successful. Keeping these ideas in mind are the best ways to retain athletes in our league-keeping kids engaged

Another topic of discussion is skill development and the creation of opportunities for our athletes to put time and effort into working in the off-season, honing their skills and abilities. We have the advantage of having great facilities and knowledgeable coaches wo are committed to providing opportunities for one-on-one skill development in specific areas of the game. These sessions will be communicated in the coming weeks and months as we continue to develop our website and Facebook page. These platforms will become valuable resources for you as we strive to create and communicate these opportunities for your players.

Thank you again for your support and participation in our goal to make this league a success for everyone involved. Please stay tuned for our upcoming events.

Hello Everyone,
We have developed a new method to help schedule volunteers for the concession stand throughout the season. We are using an app  called "Sign Up Genius." This will enable us to easily sign up for "shifts" in the stand so that we ensure everything is covered. This requires volunteers to stay diligent on showing up for their shifts when they sign up for them. One of the  changes that we are making this year is that we are requiring any volunteers under 14 years old to be accompanied by an adult. You are able to sign up for a shift and recruit a fellow team parent to split a shift so that you are both able to watch a game. Our goal this year is to make sure that whenever there is a game being played down at the Clute Park fields, that the stand is open. Below you will find the link for the schedule in Sign Up Genius. We will be making many improvements in the stand this year to streamline things and make things easier for workers especially during the busy times.

In order to make this league a success, we depend on volunteers to help make things successful. Please consider volunteering and helping out in our stand this year.

Training Section

Coaches & Players,
We have started adding to our "Training" section of the website! This will be a valuable tool for good skill development, drills, workouts and even a little motivation when you need it. We are trying to keep the language and concepts the same as we would teach it to our high school athletes. Check out this section for good ideas for practices and individual skill development! The idea is that we don't want our practices to be just about the kids standing around an infield waiting for their turn to field the next ground ball during batting practice. We want to be constantly drilling and developing skills and mechanics in a fast paced practicing environment where everyone is moving around. Consider utilizing your assistant coaches and set up stations and dividing up your teams into smaller groups! Click on "About" and then Click "Training" and then pick the category you want to get training in!
