FAQs

1. What is pompon?

Pompon is an athletic performance sport that lies between the stiff and powerful motions of cheerleading and the artistry of dance. If you are new to the sport, we encourage you to take a look at our Past Performances to learn more!

2. What happens at tryouts?

The first day of tryouts (April 20th) will be a clinic. You will be taught the short tryout routine, and you will be given time to review and practice. The second day of tryouts (April 21st) will be your actual tryout date. You will perform the routine in pairs for a panel of experienced and highly qualified judges.

3. What are you looking for at tryouts?

The Howell Varsity Pompon team is a highly competitive and growing program. We are NOT looking for perfection. We are searching for potential and a great work ethic more than anything else! If you have further questions on this, please reach out to us via email at hhsvarsitypompon@gmail.com.

4. How much does it cost?

While the team does participate in multiple fundraisers throughout the year, there are some costs associated with participation in this program. Please see our 2018-2019 Team Handbook for details!

5. What does the season look like?

Howell Varsity Pompon has participated in Mid American Pompon (MAPP) camps and competitions for more than 10 years. A typical season will include summer camp, High Kick Competition in November, Regionals in January, and States in early February. We also perform at school pep assemblies, all Howell High School Varsity Football Home Games, and most Howell High School Varsity Basketball Home Games (Men's and Women's). Please see our 2018-2019 Team Handbook for details!
