Practices leading up to State Cup on April 19

January 29, 2015

Hi Everyone!

The calendar has been updated with practice dates/times for March and April.

Since NorCal typically schedules all State Cup matches on turf fields in order to avoid any rainouts, I want us to be able to train on turf.  I was able to get Golden Valley on Sundays to accomplish this task.  So Saturday practices have been moved to Sundays all at 11am. I think that Sundays are better as this gives the girls a day of rest on Saturday after their Friday high school practice.  No practice on Easter Weekend April 4/5.  Our trainings during spring break will also be at Golden Valley at 11am.  The only training not at Golden Valley will be Wednesday, April 15th at Merced College at 6pm.

Check the calendar for updated info.

There are also some pictures posted of The Champs on the "Live.Love.Play. Photos" page. Be sure to check them out!!

High School Graduates

June 2, 2014 – 03:45 PM

Hi Everyone,

It’s high school graduation week!! And this week, we have several girls graduating from local high schools. I wanted to take a minute to express my congratulations to them and to thank them for allowing me to be a small part of their lives.

All of these girls have been model players while wearing “Merced United” colors and apparel. Committed to practices. Committed to matches. Respected by their teammates and coach. All of them are great girls with great personalities and great character traits in each of them. They each set an example of how to manage their commitment to the team while knowing that their family life and schoolwork was much more important than the little ball that we kick around on the grass.

These girls combined to play in over 500 matches. They played in over 25 different tournaments and had the opportunity to play in and visit dozens and dozens of cities. They savored and were humbled with seasons when we won more matches than we lost. They endured and built character during seasons when we lost more matches than we won.  The "face" of the 95G team will be different with girls moving on past soccer, but they'll always be remembered for being an important part of the team.

Here is a list of our girls that are graduating this week:

Sabrina is going to UC Santa Cruz.  This was Sabrina's 8th year with 95G and one of only two girls to play all 8 years starting with under 11's.

Cassie is going to Merced JC. This was Cassie’s 6th season with 95G starting with under 13’s.

Sylvia is going to Merced JC. She played 6 seasons with 95G starting with under 13’s.

Sabrina is going to CSU Stanislaus. She played 6 seasons with 95G starting with under 13’s.

Karina is heading off to CSU Chico. She played 2 seasons with 95G (u13 and u18).

Natasha is heading off to CSU Fullerton. She played 4 seasons with 95G starting with under 15's.

Norma is heading off to Utah to attend Brigham Young University. She played 5 seasons with 95G starting with under 14's.

Mackenzie is heading off to Sacramento State. She played 3 seasons with 95G starting with under 16's.

Alyssa is heading off to UC Davis. This was Alyssa’s first season with 95G. She was a great addition to the 95G family.

Jazmin is going to Merced JC. This was Jazmin’s first season with 95G. Another great addition to our 95G family.

Some girls will stay listed on our roster for the upcoming season. If they’re home for the weekend and want to play, they’ll have that option. Merced United FC is a family and we want our players to always feel welcome at any club event. Several of the girls will still train and play with us during the summer before heading off to college.

It’s definitely exciting to see these girls move on to the next phase of their lives; however, I will miss seeing them at practices and matches. Not just for their soccer skills, but most importantly because they are my friends. Each young woman has their own unique personality that just draws you to them. The years go by so fast.

Each of these girls had parents that supported them in fulfilling their commitment to the 95G team. I thank each and every one of you for that support. Without players, we would not have had a team. Without a team, we would not have experienced the many memories that have revolved around soccer. And, we wouldn’t have built the friendships that we’ve made with each other… parents and players and coaches.

Congratulations to the Seniors. Best wishes for you on your next opportunities as high school graduates!!!!!

The 2014/15 Is Here

May 14, 2014

Hi All,

The 2014/15 season is here.  A new look and set up for the new season. We are an under 19 team with girls from three different age groups...under 19, under 18, and under 17.  The team will include some college girls either full time or part time.  With the limited number of players in the three age groups, this was the best option in order to provide soccer opportunities for girls that want to continue to play competitive soccer.  It's a first for Merced United, so fingers crossed that it will be a great season.  Coach Lance, Coach Eddie, and Coach Pat will be working together to teach girls the great game of soccer.

We still have openings on the roster, so if you know anyone born between 8/1/95 - 7/31/98, send them out to an upcoming practice.

Here is some info to know about the upcoming season:

  • Registration forms are due by May 22nd.  You can download a form here... http://www.usclubsoccer.org/resources/forms-documents-center/ complete form R002 for youth players. There is also one on the "maps/handouts" page
  • Registration money of $150 (cash or check to MUFC) is due as soon as possible.  It is best to submit with your registration form.
  • Players are expected to always follow the club dress code for pratices... Merced United white practice jersey, any kind of black shorts, any kind of red socks.  Club policy.  Extra practice jerseys can be purchased for $10. Extra red socks can be purchased for $7.  Cash or check payable to MUFC. Only MUFC apparel at MUFC events.
  • The calendar is current and updated through the first week of school.
  • One confirmed tournament is the weekend of August 16/17.  It is the Soccer by the Bay which is typically in the Foster City area.  The team has played in this tourney the last two years getting 3rd two years in a row.  A great tournament on the weekend before the first day of school.  Cost for this tournament is $30 per player.  Money can be submitted with registration or before the tournament.
  • MUFC hosts a fireworks booth to raise money for the club. Each team is required to fill one time slot per family on the team.  As soon as the sign up sheet is released, I will forward it to you.  This will allow you to sign up for the time slot that best fits your schedule.  If each team fulfills their alloted number of slots, a portion of the proceeds is donated to the team account.  Additionally, if a team exceeds its number of allotted time slots, the team can earn additional funds.  Club policy requires each family to help at the booth typically for a 2-hour time slot.
  • Another fundraiser for our team is the soccer camp that we conduct for under 8 and under 10 girls.  Each camper pays $25 and they get four days of soccer instruction from our coaches and players.  This will be our fifth year doing the camp and we usually collect nearly $1,000 each year.  The camp will be Mon July 28 - Thu July 31 and attendance by the players is 99.9% mandatory.
  • Other fundraisers are raffle ticket sales and Savemart SHARES cards.  More info on that coming soon.

In closing, practices are not mandatory.  However, keep in mind that when you attended tryouts that you made a commitment to participate on the team.  An enriching and fulfilling experience for all players requires that all players participate, attend, and be actively involved in the team. Family and school are definitely higher priority than soccer.  But, players are expected to manage their time and homework and other commitments in order to fulfill their commitment to the team. The three coaches are all 100% volunteers that have 8am-5pm jobs themselves and typically, coaches are the only ones with perfect attendance during a season.  Time management is very important to take advantage of the soccer opportunities being offered this season.

I think that's it for now.  The coaches are looking forward to a great season.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.

Thank you,

Coach Lance
