I'm new to wrestling, what is a good link to understand the rules?

What should my child wear to practice?
New wrestlers should wear the following to practice: shorts or sweatpants (PLEASE no zippers or buttons), sneakers, tee shirt. (Once formal matches begin, wrestlers will be required to purchase headgear and wrestling shoes). Also, please remember to keep your child's finger nails trimmed.

What equipment is provided?
A singlet is provided. Please note you MUST return the singlet at the end of the season – if not returned there will be a charge due. Optional Sayreville Recreation Wrestling clothing will be available for purchase.

As a parent how can I help?
Help is always needed for practice and home matches. For practices, the coaches appreciate any assistance they can get with setting up and mopping the mats. Also, any chairs that are used should be put away. For home matches we have a work bond book. We ask each family to sign up for jobs. The jobs available are taper, time clock and scorekeepers, set up, mop and put away mats, set up and put away chairs, concession stand and sell 50/50 tickets. Miscellaneous jobs are also available during the course of the season.

Should I sign my wrestler up for tournaments?
The only tournament that is mandatory to attend is the end of year tournaments. Sayreville Recreation Wrestling will pay for these tournaments.
Any other tournaments are optional. It is not mandatory for any of the Coaches to attend these tournaments, however, if they are going, they will coach your wrestler on the mat if they are available at the time he/she wrestles. If no coach is available, every wrestler must have someone over the age of 18 in their corner during the match.
Parents should check with a Coach to see if their child is eligible to attend a particular tournament due to their level of experience.
