Rainout Procedure

1. If the HOME field is NOT playable or it has been raining most of the day: PLEASE make a decision by 4:30 PM. Call both umpires so they don't get on the road and are traveling to your game. If you know earlier in the day, please make the calls early also.

2. Then call the visiting coach to cancel and reschedule the game for later in the week. Saturday or Sunday are good days for make-up games. According to the C&I by-laws all games must be made up within seven days of the originally scheduled game or face a penalty fine.

3. Call the players on your team.

4. Call John Hrubochak at 814-948-6290 or 814-935-6050 (CELL) and tell him the date and time of the rescheduled game and he will get umpires for the rescheduled game.

5. If you don't call the umpires before 4:30 PM and they leave and arrive for the game that is rained out, then they are paid a travel expense of $15. So, let's be CAUTIOUS in trying to force a game to be played when the weather is bad.

Umpire Procedures

1. The umpires should be paid BEFORE the start of the game at the pre-game conference is a good time. This is the protocol at all PIAA high school games and makes for a more cordial relationship between umpires, players and managers.

2. The PIAA umpire fee is $55 per game. A C&I certified umpire fee is $45 per game.

3. We encourage sportsmanship and have asked the PIAA umpires to read the SPORTSMANSHIP MESSAGE before the start of the game.

4. Reminder that if a coach or player is EJECTED during a C&I Pony League game according to PIAA high school rules, they are not eligible to coach or play in the next game. Please inform the league secretary, so this information is forwarded to the correct officials.

5. Remind the Coaches that they set the example for their players; if they have control of their team then the players will control themselves during the game. This makes for a well-played and competitive game between both teams.

Suspended Game Procedures

1. An official game is 4 1/2 innings if the home team is ahead and five innings if the visitors are ahead.

2. If the game is tied and can't be finished then it is suspended from that point. You finish the game from that point.

3. If a game is not official and you can't finish it then it is suspended from that point. You finish the game from that point.

4. The best thing to do if you have a suspended game is to finish the game at the visitor's field the next time you play.

Here's how the umpires are paid:
1. The rate for PIAA umpire is $7 for each inning.

2. The rate for a C&I umpire is $6 for each inning.

3. But if the umpires have to go back to the home team's field to do 1 to 4 innings only then each umpire also receives a $15 travel allowance plus the rate per inning.

Therefore you see it is less expensive to make up the game at the
visitor's field the next time both teams play, as the umpires are already there and you don't have to pay the travel allowance.
