Union Suffragettes Girls Softball Week #8 Results and Highlights

Results from Saturday June 9th, 2012 at Biertuempfel Park in Union Township.

 

In Senior League play:                                                                                        

 

Libras 19 Scorpions 3

 

            The Libras were led by Erica Robles who smashed a grand slam and pitched 2 shutout innings. Lexi Laraway pitched the final 3 innings allowing 3 runs and helping her cause with 3 hits including a double. Chauncy Walker, Nicole Fazandiso and Kayla Keane all chipped in with 2 hits each.

            For the Scorpions, Angelica Gonzalez was 2 for 2, Tomia Henry singled in 2 RBI and Renee Jones knocked in a run with a 3rd inning single. Erika Grusinski gave up 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3 in her 2 innings of work.

 

Geminis 19 Leos 4

 

            The Geminis big bats showed up again, led by Brianna Cortez who was 3 for 4 with a run scored. Marilyn Torres was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. Christiana Gillo was 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI and 2 runs scored. Adriana Belmonte was 2 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jennifer Puschak doubled in 2 RBI. Adrianna Ferreira was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Amanda Rivera was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Gianna DiGiorgio drove in 2 runs. Shantel Villacis contributed a hit and a run and Margaret Ford and Becca-Lyn McRobbie each scored twice.

            Heather Butler, Daniela Santos and Katie Wachter all doubled for the Leos who stole 7 bases on the day. The defense was led by Isabel DeMatos who continues to shine at third base while Juliana Rodrigues and Butler both pitched well, Butler striking out 3 in her 3 innings of work.

 

Pisces 13 Comets 12

 

            The Pisces came back from a 6 run deficit led by Kelsey Krupa who was 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 singles. Caitlen Jordan had 2 singles and reached base 3 times. Melanie Krupa and Katie Stadler both pitched well and the defense was led by Sydnee Santiago and Alyssa Steinmetz.

            The Comets were led by Yvonnie Salomon who went 2 for 2 with a double and a triple, scored twice and pitched 3 strong innings. Sasha Korn, Meaghan Brant and Kayla Warnock combined for 4 runs on 5 hits.

 

 

Aquarians 7 Virgos 3

 

            Congratulations to the Aquarians who locked up the Senior Division title with their win over the Virgos. The Aquarians 4 run first inning would be enough led by a Jennifer Maltese single, an Alicia Rodriquez double and Emily Ponceks and Tristan Scheiners back to back singles. The Aquarians played great defense throughout, led by some great glove work by Rodriquez at short and Brittani Fiorenzi at first. Maltese pitched 3 shutout innings and Ashley Rodriquez closed the door with a perfect 6th.

            The Virgos were led by Tyanna Reynolds who was 2 for 2 with an RBI. I’yanna Harrison had a double and 2 RBI and Amanda Ferrigno, Joanna Stern and Krystle Vera all scored runs. Sarah Fisher pitched 3 strong innings turning an unassisted double play. Ferrigno also shined at short with 2 putouts and a double play.

 

In Junior League Play:

 

Explorers 26 Entertainers 4

           

Competitors 11 Artists 9

           

            The Competitors held on led by Emily Hayes who was 3 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBI. Christina Moran was 2 for 2, with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Melanie Cardoso was 2 for 2 with a double and 2 RBI. Allie Leone tripled and scored and Amy Ferrigno was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Angelina Dapante earned herself a game ball by going 2 for 2 with a run scored.

            The Artists roared back from 9 down to make this close, led by Collette Guido and Alex Anton who both had 2 hits. Guido and Rhianna Jones both pitched well for the Artists.

           

Scholars 22 Diplomats 5

 

            The Scholars had 8 girls contribute RBI led by Ciara Johnson and Sidney Lempick who both homered. Lempick also doubled and drove in 4 runs and pitched 3 solid innings. Tamia Howell had 3 hits and 2 RBI. Gabrielle Lamadieu and Karen Vera both chipped in with 2 hits and an RBI. Amanda Mangan and Alyssa Negron both doubled and drove in 3 RBI. Jenni Hughes pitched well and was backed by a solid defense led by Negron, Lamadieu and Leslie Echevarria who also drove in 2 runs.

           

Professionals 20 Educators 9

 

            The Educators were led by the big bat of Destiny Tullis who was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles and 5 RBI. Jane Garcia pitched well for the Educators.

In Senior League play:                                                                                        

 

Capricorns 26 Comets 12

 

            The Capricorns had 10 players contribute RBI, led by Alanna Smith who homered, doubled and drove in 5 runs. Kara Reany-Pinto also homered and doubled in 3 runs. Allanah Bucu had 3 RBI and Kaitlin McTernan, Jessica Dragone and Alex Pinto each drove in 2 RBI. Caryn Filippone pitched 3 solid innings allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and striking out 3.

            Yvonnie Solomon starred for the Comets going 4 for 4 and scoring 3 runs. Stephanie Ng and Kayla Warnock combined to score 5 runs and Courtnei Caffe walked twice scoring 2 runs.

 

Aquarians 12 Scorpions 0

 

            The Scorpions were led by Nicole Supino who was 2 for 2 while Sofia Santos and Suzette Garrido recorded the other Scorp hits as the Aquarians got great pitching and a superb effort from their defense. Santos, Garrido and Amanda Torres shined on defense to keep the game close until the Aquarians extended a 4-0 lead by scoring 8 runs in the final two frames.

 

Virgos 24 Geminis 21

 

            In an absolute slugfest, the Virgos had 10 players contribute RBI, led by Lauren Buchanan who homered, doubled and singled in 5 runs and pitched 3strong innings. I’yanna Harrison and Joanna Stern each tripled and singled in 4 RBI. Krystle Vera tripled, doubled and singled in 2 RBI. Baylee Solorzano and Tyanna Reynolds were both 3 for 3 with 4 runs scored with Solorzano adding 2 RBI. Alyssa Rivera was on base all 4 times up scoring 3 runs. Amanda Ferrigno was 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI and Isis Towns was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

            The Geminis had 3 hits each from Larelle Daves, Jennifer Pushack, Adriana Belmonte and Becca Lyn McRobbie. Cristina Gillo scored 3 times to go with her 3 hits and Dominica Killeen also drove in 3 RBI. Amanda Rivera had an RBI hit and Brianna Cortez scored 3 runs.

 

Pisces 17 Leos 8

 

            The Pisces played well, led by an 8 run first inning and Alyssa Steinmetz who went 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles and 4 RBI. Katie Ruopp was 4 for 4 with a triple, 3 singles and a RBI. Larissa Stone was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Kelsey Krupa was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a single. Caitlen Jordan went 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Melanie Krupa, Catie Stadler and Ruopp each pitched 2 innings combining to allow only 4 hits while striking out 10.

 

In Junior League Play:

 

Professionals 20 Competitors 19

 

            In the first of 3 one run games in Junior League play the Professionals came back from an 11-5 deficit to pull out the victory. The Competitors were led by Melanie Cardoso who went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI. Ashley Ferrigno homered and had 5 RBI and Emily Hayes also homered and had 5 RBI. Allie Leone was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and Christina Moran was 3 for 3 and drove in a run. Jenna Ortiz also contributed 2 RBI.

           

Explorers 17 Educators 16

            In the second of the one run games, the Explorers held on for a close victory over the Educators.

           

Inventors 19 Entertainers 5

 

            Kimberly Cruz and Gianna Casella led the way for the Inventors combining for 6 hits. Cruz knocked in 6 runs while Casella contributed a triple, double, single and 3 RBI. Erin McTernan was 2 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBI. Grace Caraglia was perfect at the plate going 3 for 3 with an RBI and nearly perfect pitching allowing no runs, no hits, striking out one and walking 3. Kayla Mantilla pitched 2 strong innings and helped her cause going 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored.

           

Artists 15 Diplomats 14

 

            In the last of the one run games, the Artists held on, led by Rhianna Jones who tripled and drove in 3 RBI and pitched 3 strong innings. Collette Guido also pitched 3 innings, helping her cause by doubling and tripling in 2 runs. Brianna Gomes also knocked in a pair of runs.

In Senior League play:                                                                                        

 

Virgos 14 Scorpions 9

 

            The Virgos had 8 girls contribute RBI led by Joanna Stern who drove in 5 runs with 2 doubles and two runs scored. Sarah Fisher scored 3 runs and had two RBI. Tyanna Reynolds drove in 2 RBI and Krystle Vera doubled in a RBI and scored 3 runs. Amanda Ferrigno and Chelsea Jenkins both scored twice. Jenkins once again was superb catching and the Virgos got great pitching from Lauren Buchanan who gave up 3 runs on 3 hits in 3 innings pitched.

            The Scorpions were led by Suzette Garrido who was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and Erika Grusinski who had 4 RBI. Amanda Torres and Sofia Santos both scored 3 runs each. Nicole Supino and Lauren Erdman drove in the other Scorp runs. Tomia Henry singled and scored and Angelica Gonzalez also singled.

 

Capricorns 4 Aquarians 4

 

            The Capricorns got perfect pitching for 3 innings from Caryn Filippone who struck out 3. Alanna Smith and Allanah Bucu both doubled in runs. Laura Corveleyn was 2 for 3 with a RBI and Jessica Dragone accounted for the other Cap RBI. Tanajha Roberts hit a line drive single and the defense was led by Joann Zbozien at 2nd Base.

            The Aquarians remained unbeaten by salvaging the tie, led by Brittani Fiorenzas’ 3 run first inning homerun, driving in Jennifer Maltese and Alicia Rodriquez who each had hits to reach base. Tristan Scheiner finished strong, pitching three shutout innings to keep the Caps in check the final 3 innings.

 

Libras 10 Pisces 3

 

            The Libras 8 run 3rd inning was enough, led by the clutch hitting of Erica Robles, Lexi Laraway and Caitlin Gurdowski. Alay Sabogal and Kayla Keane came up with the big defensive plays and Robles pitched 3 scoreless innings.

            The Pisces were led by Caitlin Jordan who was 2 for 2 with a single, a double and a RBI. Kelsey Krupa tripled but was thrown out trying to advance to home. The defensive effort was led by catcher Katie Ruopp who threw out a runner stealing third and caught a third strike foul tip to end an inning. The Pisces also turned an impressive double play, Melanie Krupa to Alyssa Steinmetz to Sydnee Santiago.

 

Geminis 14 Comets 12

 

            The Geminis were led by Becca Lyn McRobbie who was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI and Margaret Ford who was 4 for 4 with 2 RBI. Adrianna Belmonte was 2 for 4 with a triple and 4 RBI. Maeve Ford was 3 for 4 with a RBI and Larrell Daves was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI. Brianna Cortez and Marilyn Torres each scored twice and Dominica Killean also scored for the Gems. The Ford’s each pitched 3 innings combining for 3 strikeouts. Jennifer Puschak was outstanding in left field.

            Sasha Korn, Christina Melchionna, Meaghan Brant, Kayla Warnock and Yvonnie Solomon combined for 16 hits and 9 runs to lead the Comets. Stephanie Ng pitched one strong inning, striking out the side.

Professionals 18 Diplomats 11

 

             The Professionals had 10 girls contribute RBI led by Alyssa Thomas who was 2 for 2 with a RBI and 3 runs scored. The defense was aided by 2 double plays and good pitching from Ezinne Igwe and Asia Suggs.

            The Diplomats were led by Olivia Cocchiarella who was 4 for 4 with a homerun and 2 doubles and Lindsey Rotoly who had 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Megan Sloane doubled and pitched 3 strong innings allowing 4 runs and striking out 4. Hanna Yoselevich reached base 3 times and scored a run and Jenna Vesey reached base twice. The defense was keyed by Vesey and first-year players Lauren Sloane and Emily Schroeder.

           

Inventors 18 Explorers 8

           

            Kimberly Cruz hit a grand slam collecting 4 RBI to lead the Inventors. Arielle Roman had a bases clearing triple to drive in 3 RBI. Anna Holland was 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI. Annie Langan was 2 for 3 and scored 3 runs. The Inventors got superb pitching from Grace Caraglia who pitched 3 scoreless innings striking out 4 and Kayla Mantilla who pitched 2 innings, striking out 3.

           

 

Scholars 26 Entertainers 9

 

            The Scholars had 9 girls contribute RBI led by Leslie Echevarria who hit a homerun, doubled and had 5 RBI. Tamia Howell also homered. Jessica Arita doubled and had 2 RBI. Jenna Arita and Amanda Mangan both drove in 2 runs. The defense was led by Gabrielle Lamadieu, Tyler Darby and Echevarria.

           

           

Competitors 9 Educators 8

 

            The Competitors’ Zoe Foster walked with the bases loaded to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Grace Enderle, Angelina Dapante and Sara Castro each walked to load the bases to set up Fosters’ walk off game winning RBI. Emily Hayes pitched 3 scoreless innings while striking out 6 and Ashley Ferrigno blasted two HR’s and had 4 RBI.     

            The Educators put up a great fight led by Sophia Cruz and Vicelle Juanites who were both 2 for 3 with each girl doubling. Jenel Garcia pitched 3 innings striking out 6.

In Senior League play:                                                                                        

 

Comets 15 Libras 4

 

            Christina Melchionna led the Comets, pitching 3 strong innings, allowing only a run, while Kayla Warnock allowed 3 runs in her three innings pitched. Alyssa Liquori led the offense going 4 for 5 and scoring 3 times. Meaghan Brandt and Yvonnie Solomon combined for 6 hits and 4 runs scored.

            For the Libras, Nicole Fazendilio and Jamie Stulec played great defensively while Kiara Hernandez and Lexi Laraway led the offense with big hits.

 

Virgos 25 Leos 1

 

            The Virgos got superb pitching from Sarah Fisher who gave up 1 run on 3 hits in her three innings and Tyanna Reynolds who gave up no runs and no hits and struck out 6 in her 2 innings of work. The offense was led by Joanna Stern who drove in 5 RBI and scored 4 runs, Corinne Clemente who was 2 for 3 with a double and 5 RBI and Emily Blum who was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Baylee Solorzano was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and Fisher scored 4 runs.

            For the Leos, Julliana Rodrigues singled and scored and pitched three innings. Heather Butler was 2 for 2, singling twice, and reached base in all 3 at bats.

 

Scorpions 11 Geminis 8

 

            The Scorpions had 12 players contribute 18 hits, led by Sofia Santos who was 4 for 4 and Nicole Supino who had 4 RBI. Erika Grusinski pitched 3 strong innings and drove in a pair of runs. Amanda Torres, Angelica Gonzalez, Christine Supino and Rene Jones also contributed an RBI. Nicolette Kromis also had two hits. Shortstop Suzette Garrido killed a late game Gemini rally with 2 bases-loaded force-outs at third base.

            The Geminis were led by Becca Lynn Robbie who was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI. Margaret Ford, Adriana Belmonte, Adriana Ferreira, Christiana Gillo and Giana DiGorgio all contributed RBI. Shantel Villacis and Amanda Rivera both had hits, as Brianna Cortez         , Jennifer Puschak and Marilyn Torres all scored runs. Ford and Ferreira, each pitched 3 innings combining for 3 strikeouts.

            The Capricorns once again got superb pitching from Caryn Filippone who gave up 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out six, and Jesse McDonough who didn’t allow a run, while striking out 4. Kaitlyn McTernan led the offense driving in 3 runs with a pair of doubles, while McDonough helped her cause with 3 RBI. Alanna Smith drove in 2 RBI. Allanah Bucu, Olivia Corveleyn, Alex Pinto and Tanajha Roberts accounted for the other Caps’ RBI.

            The Pisces were led by Alyssa Steinmetz who was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. Kelsey Oakley and Hope Valenzuela each doubled. Melanie Krupa allowed 1 run on 2 hits striking out 4 in her 2 innings pitched.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In Junior League Play:

 

Artists 21 Entertainers 12

 

            The Artists had 10 girls contribute RBI, led by Brianna Gomes two doubles and 4 RBI. Rhianna Jones pitched 2 strong innings allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out 3. Collette Guido gave up just 4 hits while striking out 2 in her two innings pitched.

            The Entertainers were led by Sienna Bucu who was 2 for 4 with a grand slam, double, and 6 RBI. Bucu also pitched 2 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts. Natalia Ramos, Kelly Higgins and Grace Corveleyn also contributed hits. Kemberly Torres pitched well in her first outing allowing just 5 hits and striking out 1.

           

Diplomats 15 Educators 7

           

            The Diplomats were led by Megan Sloane who gave up one run while striking out 8 and Lindsey Rotoly who pitched 3 innings and went 3 for 4 with two home runs and 7 RBI. Geneva Loomis went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, Olivia Cocchiarella was 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, and first-year player Emily Schroeder was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored.

            The Educators were led by Destiny Tullis whose first game pitching was a success, allowing only 4 runs on 6 hits and making a few nice plays as well. Janel Garcia pitched 3 innings, walking only one batter.

 

Competitors 13 Explorers 6

 

            Melanie Cardoso hit a two-run homer and Emily Hayes had a solo shot to lead the Competitors. Amy Ferrigno doubled in 2 RBI and pitched 3 solid innings. Allie Leone contributed two hits and an RBI. Jenna Ortiz and Grace Enderle scored for the Competitors.

           

           

Scholars 17 Inventors 16

 

            In the battle of the unbeatens, the Scholars ended the Inventors 12 game winning streak to claim sole possession of first place. The Scholars were led by Sidney Lempick who had a grand slam and pitched 3 innings. Amanda Mangan had 4 RBI. Karen Vera had two hits and scored 3 runs. Kailini Day also had a hit and scored 3 runs. Gabriele Lamadieu doubled and scored and Leslie Echevarria contributed a hit and a run. Jessica Arita was stellar behind the plate.

            The Inventors had 17 hits led by Theresa Ludwich who went 2 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBI, Kayla Mantilla went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI, and also made a great catch of a line drive and turned it into a double play. Giana Casella went 3 for 3 with a 3 run HR. Annie Langan went 3 for 3 including a diving play on defense. 8 year-old Simone Casella went 2 for 3.

Union Suffragettes Girls Softball Week #4 Results and Highlights

Results from Saturday May 5th, 2012 at Biertuempfel Park in Union Township.

 

In Senior League play:                                                                                        

 

Pisces 9 Virgos 4

 

            The Pisces were led by Kelsey Krupa who was 3 for 3 with a home run and a double. Katie Ruopp was 2 for 2 with a double, single and walk. Melanie Krupa didn’t allow a hit and struck out 4 in her two innings pitched. Sydnee Santiago was stellar at shortstop for the Pisces stingy defense.

            The Virgos were held in check, only managing two singles while stranding 12 base runners. An Amanda Ferrigno single and an RBI infield hit by Amanda Freeman were the only Virgo hits on the day. Corinne Clemente, Joanna Stern, I’yanna Harrison and Paulina Menendez all scored for the Virgos. Baylee Solorzano, Tyanna Reynolds and Lauren Buchanan drove in the other runs.

 

Libras 4 Capricorns 2

 

            In a pitcher’s duel, the Capricorns once again got great pitching from Caryn Filippone who only allowed one 1 hit, walked two and struck out 8 in her three innings pitched. Kara Reaney-Perrotti allowed 4 runs on two hits while striking out 4 in her three innings of work. Jessica Dragone and Filippone drove in the Caps runs. Kaitlyn McTernan shined on defense.

           

Aquarians 18 Comets 8

 

            The Aquarians remained unbeaten behind the hitting of the Rodriquez twins and the pitching of Tristen Scheiner. Alicia Rodriquez was on fire going 3 for 4 with a walk. Ashley Rodriquez hit the go ahead double and Emily Poncek and Scheiner also contributed hits for the Aquarians. Scheiner allowed only one hit in her 3 innings pitched.

            The Comets were led by Kayla Warnock who pitched 3 solid innings and went 1 for 2 at the plate. Meagan Brant was 3 for 3. Stephanie Ng, Emily King and Yvonnie Solomon combined for 4 hits and 4 runs scored. The defense was led by 1st Baseman Brant, who had an unassisted double play.

 

Scorpions 12 Leos 5

 

            The Scorpions were led by Erika Grusinski, who pitched three scoreless innings while striking out 7 with no walks. Grusinski helped her cause with 3 RBI. Nicolette Kromis and Nicole Supino both went 3 for 3. Supino, Suzette Garido and Lauren Erdman all had 2 RBI, with Garido  and Kromis doubling. Angelica Gonzalez, Christine Supino, and Sofia Santos drove in the other Scorp runs. Renee Jones and Amanda Torres also chipped in with hits. Santos killed a 6th inning Leo rally with some tremendous glove work at shortstop.

            For the Leos, Isabel DeMatos doubled and had a stolen base. She also was stellar at third base recording 6 outs, five of them solo. Julliana Rodriquez pitched 3 innings, striking out 2 and walking 3.

Scholars 10 Explorers 1

 

            The Scholars remained unbeaten, led by Sidney Lempicki who pitched 3 scoreless innings and tripled in Jenna Arita. Tamia Howell had 3 RBI with a double and a bases clearing single. Arita, Ciara Johnson and Amanda Mangan all had RBI. Alyssa Negron doubled and scored. Jenny Hughes struck out the side while pitching in the 5th.

 

Entertainers 17 Professionals 15

           

            The Entertainers won their second in a row, led by Natalia Ramos and Grace Corveleyn who combined for 7 hits. Sienna Bucu homered and had 3 RBI. Bucu, Kaitlyn Marques and Kelly Higgins scored 3 times each. Phylicia Menendez and Chanelle Sellers both scored twice. Gabriella Valente chipped in with a pair of hits and Ramos pitched well in her first outing.

            For the Professionals, Ezzine Igwe homered, had 3 RBI and pitched 3 innings of 2-hit ball. Natalie Colon and Elizabeth Arias both were 2 for 4. Alyssa Thomas had 2 RBI and gave up 2 runs in her two innings pitched.

 

Competitors 18 Diplomats 2

 

            The Competitors got great pitching once again from Amy Ferrigno who gave up 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2 and Melanie Cardoso who gave up no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 in her inning of work. Ferrigno was 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 triples and 5 RBI. Christina Moran was 3 for 3 with 4 RBI. Emily Hayes was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI. Nahje Osborne received the coaches’ game ball for her 2 hits and 3 RBI and Zoe Foster scored 3 runs in the victory.

            The Diplomats were led by Ciera Bryant and Olivia Cocchiarella who both had singles. Cocchiarella had an RBI and Jenna Vesey had two great at-bats. On defense, Bryant was solid behind the plate and Vesey was outstanding in the field for the Dips.

           

Inventors 17 Artists 14

 

            The Artists were led by Brianna who had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Gabby also had 3 RBI and Cailla drove in two runs. Collette pitched 3 innings, striking out 5 and Alex pitched the last inning for the Artists.

            The Inventors were led by Erin McTernan who led the way going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 6 RBIs, while Arielle Roman went 2 for 2 with 2 doubles and 5 RBIs. Kayla Mantilla went 2 for 3 and opened the game strong with giving up 3 runs in 3 innings. Anna Holland pitched 1 strong inning but it was Grace Caraglia pitching the last inning and earning the save while striking out 3 batters. The Inventors improve to 4-0.

Union Suffragettes Girls Softball Week #3 Results and Highlights

In Senior League play:                                                                                        

 

Leos 14 Comets 12

 

            The Comets were led by Alyssa Liquori who went 3 for 3 with a HR and a double and three runs scored. Meagan Brant, Christina Melchionna, Allison Bober, Teria Croix and Ravyn Johnson combined for 8 hits and six runs scored, highlighted by Brants HR and Melchionnas double. Kirsten Sutterlin reached base three times.

 

Pisces 9 Scorpions 4

 

            The Pisces were led by their stingy defense including two double plays, one by Kelsey Krupa and the other turned by Sydnee Santiago to hold the Scorpions in check. Krupa and Katie Ruopp both doubled in runs for the Pisces who were playing without two of their injured starters, Catie Stadler and Larissa Stone.

            Tomia Henry, Diana Amorosa, Erika Grusinski and Nicole Supino each had an RBI in the Scorpions 4 run first inning. Sofia Santos anchored the defense with several nice plays at shortstop and Ashley Ingheleri allowed only 1 run on 3 hits in her three innings pitched.

           

Aquarians 18 Libras 6

 

            The Aquarians ended the Libras 10 game winning streak. Jennifer Malteses’ third inning home run drove in Ja’El Keyes who walked and Ashley Rodriquez who singled to give the Aquarians a lead they would not relinquish. Brittani Fiorenza and Michelle Lin both drove in runs and Maltese and Rodriquez both pitched well in the victory.

 

Geminis 8 Capricorns 3

 

            The Geminis got terrific pitching from Adrianna Ferreira who gave up no runs on 1 hit while striking out 2 in 3 innings and Margaret Ford who gave up 3 runs on 7 hits in her 3 innings of work. Ferreira had two RBI and Ford doubled to both help their cause. Jennifer Puschak, Adriana Belmonte, Maeve Ford, Dominica Killeen, Amanda Rivera and Larrell Davies all scored runs. The Geminis got superb defense from Brianna Cortez at 2nd base and Giana DiGiorgio, who made a spectacular running catch in left field to end the game.

            The Capricorns once again got great pitching from Caryn Filippone who gave up 1 run on 1 hit striking out 5 in her three innings pitched. Kara Perrotti gave up no runs in her one inning pitched, but the Caps only managed 5 singles on the day, scoring all 3 of their runs in the first inning. Allana Smith drove in a run on a ground ball and Jessie Dragone and Caty Pagano both had RBI singles. Allanah Bucu, Laura Corveleyn and Kaitlyn McTernan all scored.  Joanna Zbozien, Olivia Corveleyn and McTernan had the other singles. Martha Myroniuk reached base twice. The defense was led by Olivia Corveleyn in center field.

 

In Junior League Play:

 

Scholars 21 Artists 2

 

            The Scholars remained unbeaten, Sidney Lempick drove in 8 runs with a grand slam and triple. Jenny Hughes hit a three run homer and pitched 3 scoreless innings while striking out 6. 8 Scholars drove in runs led by Tamia Howells’ 4 hits and 2 RBI and Jenna Aritas’ 2 hits and 4 RBI. Tyler Darby tripled and Karen Vera, Alyssa Negron, Leslie Echevarria and Amanda Mangan all drove in a run. Lauren Freitas also contributed on offense.

            The Artists were led by Colette who had 2 RBI on a single and a double. She also pitched 3 innings striking out three.

 

Inventors 26 Professionals 21

           

            The Inventors remained unbeaten with a dramatic sixth-inning comeback led by Gianna Casella who was 5 for 5 with a HR and triple and 5 RBI. Anna Holland was 4 for 4 with 2 triples and 6 RBI. Kimberly Cruz was 3 for 4 doubling in the game winning RBI, one of her 7 on the day. Kayla Mantilla was 2 for 4 with a double and 4 RBI. Annie Langan had 3 hits and first year player Simone Casella had a double and scored 3 runs. Holland pitched the sixth to earn the victory.

           

Entertainers 12 Educators 7

 

            The Entertainers had 6 girls with multiple hits and 7 girls with RBI, led by Sienna Bucu who had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Grace Corveleyn and Phylicia Menendez  both hit doubles. Corveleyn, Sabrina Duarte and Natalie Ramos all had 2 RBI. Bucu and Menendez both pitched with Menendez giving up 2 runs and striking out 4 and Bucu, struck out 6 including the side in the last inning. The defense was led by Kemberly Torres and Chanelle Sellers.

 

Explorers 9 Diplomats 4

 

            The Diplomats were led by Megan Sloane who hit a 3 run HR, Kaitlyn “Pinky” Matta had 2 singles and scored a run and Geneva Loomis reached base twice including a single.

 

In Little Lady Gette action:

 

            For the Sparrows, McKenzie Meyers looked great swinging the bat while Anna Lopes and Jordana Wagner looked superb in the field.

Aquarians 8 Pisces 5

 

For the Aquarians, Brittani Fiorenza singled home Jennifer Maltese who walked, advanced and then stole third. Emily Poncek and Allison Pierce both drove in runs and Tristan Scheiners bases loaded single drove in 2. Scheiner also pitched well, allowing only a run while striking out 8 in 3 innings.

The Pisces were led by Katie Ruopp and Kelsey Krupa who both hit doubles. Alyssa Steinmetz was stellar behind the plate throwing out a base runner trying to steal third and catching an inning ending pop up.

 

Virgos 11 Comets 10

 

            Iyanna Harrison led the Virgos with her game winning RBI in the sixth. Eight Virgos had RBIs including Joanna Stern, Baylee Solorzano and Harrison, all of whom had two RBI. Amanda Freeman had 3 infield singles. Lauren Buchanon, Corrine Clemente, Stern and Harrison all scored twice. Solorzano was outstanding in left field and Buchanon, Clemente and Sarah Fisher all pitched well in the win.

            Stephanie Ng went 1 for 1 with 3 runs scored and made 3 terrific catches in left field to lead the Comets. Christina Melchionna, Yvonne Solamon and Courtnei Caffey each contributed two hits each. Kayla Warnock was 1 for 2, scored a run and caught a great game behind the plate.

           

Capricorns 17 Leos 0

 

            The Capricorns offensive explosion was led by Alana Smiths two run HR and 3 RBI, Jessica Dragone and Caryn Filippones 3 RBI each and Allanah Bucus solo HR. Kaitlyn McTernan also drove in two runs. Filippone and Jesse McDonough each pitched three shutout innings combining for 16 strikeouts.

 

Libras 15 Geminis 7

 

            For the Libras, Erica Robles struck out all nine batters she faced in her three innings of work while at the plate she went 3 for 3 with a home run. Nicole Fuscaldo played great at shortshop while first-year player Brianna Rivera added two hits. Lexi Laraway pitched the final three innings to extend the Libras winning streak to 10.

            Jennifer Puschak had a triple, scored a run and had 3 RBI to lead the Geminis. Amanda Rivera singled and drove in 2 runs. Christiana Gillo, Shantel Villacis, Brianna Cortez and Adriana Belmonte all scored runs while Maeve Ford scored twice. Puschak also made a great catch in left field.

 

In Junior League Play:

 

Inventors 21 Educators 19

 

The Inventors were led by Kayla Mantila who went 3 for 3 with a double and a grand slam while driving in 7 RBI and Erin McTernan who went 3 for 3 hitting a 3 run home run while pitching 3 solid innings allowing 5 runs with 3 strikeouts. Anna Holland went 3 for 3 hitting a double and triple with 2 RBI. Gianna Casella went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. 1st year player Arielle Roman went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Kimberly Cruz went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI settling down to earn the save.

 

Scholars 14 Professionals 3

           

            The Scholars were led by Sidney Lempick who hit a triple and homerun, Tamia Howell and Jenna Arita who each had 3 RBI and Alyssa Negron. The Scholars turned a rare triple play in the 4th inning started with Aritas catch and throw to first and then relayed to second.

            For the Professionals, Natalie Colon had two RBI on two solo home runs. Asia Suggs was 1 for 1 with a walk and an RBI. Kiera Sanders made a fabulous running catch in right field.

 

Artists 15 Explorers 4

 

            The Artists were led by Brianna Gomes 6 RBI on a single and 2 home runs and Rhianna Jones who had 3 RBI with a pair of singles and a home run. Collete Guido struck out 5 in three innings and Alexandra Anton gave up one hit in her one inning of work.

 

Competitors 23 Entertainers 8

 

            The Competitors were led by Christina Moran who homered and doubled in 5 RBI, Emily Hayes who homered twice knocking in 4 runs, Amy Ferrigno who doubled twice, homered and drove in 3 runs, Ashley Ferrigno who was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI, Allie Leone who  was 3 for 4 with two doubles and 2 RBI and first year player Sara Castro who drove in 2 runs with her first hit. Amy Ferrigno pitched 3 innings for the win.

Union Suffragettes Girls Softball Week One Results and Highlights

The Union Suffragettes Girls Softball League held opening day for their 38th season on Saturday April 14th, 2012 at Biertuempfel Park in Union Township. In Senior League play:

 

Aquarians 15 Gemini’s 0

 

Jennifer Maltese started with two strong innings not allowing any hits or runs. Alicia Rodriguez was 4 for 4 including, an in the park home run in the second inning. The solid defensive effort was led by the contributions of Brittani Fiorenza and Michelle Lin. Ashley Rodriguez struck out the final batter with the bases loaded and two outs to preserve the shutout.

 

Libras 14 Leos 6

 

The Libras began the season with a very hard fought victory over the Leos. Several of the new girls on the team played very well. Zoe Neal, Brianna Rivera, Kiara Hernandez, Jamie Stulec and Chauncei Walker all played with aplomb. They are all welcome additions to the "Libra Family".  Erica Robles and Lexi Laraway pitched very well and overall the team played a crisp game against a noteworthy opponent.

   

The Leos were led by Isabella Cruz’s 2 RBI’s, Daniela Santos’ double and Jaclyn Yoselevichs’ single. Taylor Heggins chipped in with a sacrifice bunt. Julliana Rodriquez pitched 3 innings striking out 3 and Yoselevich struck out two in her 3 innings of work.

 

Comets 20 Scorpions 4

 

The Comets were led by Emily King and Alyssa Liquori who both went 3 for 3 combining for 5 runs scored. Sasha Korn and Meagan Brandt each had two hits and combined for 6 runs scored. King, Korn and Brandt all pitched well in the victory.

 

The Scorpions Erika Grusinski struck out 3 in her two innings pitching and chipped in with a single offensively. Nicole Suppino was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s. Tamia Henry was 1 for 2 and drove in a run. Christina Suppino also had an RBI. Lauren Erdman and Nicolette Kromis also had hits.

 

Capricorns 2 Virgos 2

 

Caryn Filippone pitched three strong innings, striking out 6 and giving up two earned runs. Jessie McDonough pitched 3 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts. Kaitlyn McTernan led the offense with two singles, an RBI and a stolen base. Allanah Bucu singled in the top of the second, Jess Marie Torres then walked, Bucu stole third and later scored on an infield fly. In the third, Olivia Corvelyn walked and advanced to second on an infield out and scored on McTernan’s RBI single. The defensive highlight came in the bottom of the third with base runners on first and second and two out. The Virgos singled to right field, Olivia Corvelyn tracked it down and threw it to Bucu who threw it home to Laura Corvelyn as the run scored, but Corvelyn threw to Alanna Smith at third base to tag the runner out at third, to end the threat. Caty Pagano and Jess Marie Torres both singled. Alex Pinto reached base twice on walks.

 

The Virgos got strong pitching from Tyanna Reynolds who struck out 3 and gave up two runs in 3 innings and Sarah Fisher who pitched three shutout innings while striking out 3. The Virgos offense was led by Lauren Buchanon who tripled and scored on Fisher’s sacrifice RBI and Isis Towns who’s single to right field drove in Erin Devlin who reached base when she was hit by a pitch. The Virgos once again displayed a strong defense led by shortstop Amanda Ferrigno and excellent catching from Chelsea Jenkins.

 

In Junior League Play:

 

Diplomats 19 Entertainers 3

 

The Diplomats were led by Lindsey Rotoly who hit two grand slams and Megan Sloane who also hit a grand slam. First-year players Lauren Sloane, Emily Shroeder and Kayla Owens combined for 3 hits, 5 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. The Diplomats got strong pitching from Megan Sloane and Lauren Baran.

 

The Entertainers Grace Corvelyn singled to open the game followed by a double by Phylicia Menendez for an RBI. Corvelyn and Sienna Bucu both had two hits. Natalie Ramos also contributed a hit for the Entertainers who got two innings of pitching each from Corvelyn and Bucu.

 

Inventors 9 Competitors 6

 

Erin McTernan led the way for the Inventors going 5 for 5, with 2 RBI’s and 5 runs scored. Gianna Casella was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, a triple and 4 RBI’s. Kimberly Cruz went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and got the win pitching the final 3 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits with four strikeouts. McTernan pitched the first three innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. Anna Holland hit a triple to break a five all tie and then made a great play to end the Competitors last inning rally.

 

The Competitors were led by Emily Hayes who hit a two run home run, Allie Leone who homered, Christina Moran who had 3 hits and Carlie Desjardines who had two hits and an RBI. Amy and Ashley Ferrigno each pitched 3 strong innings to keep the game close throughout.

 

Scholars 18 Educators 8

 

Ciara and Amanda both had a double and Sidney and Leslie showed good team work with an out at third. Jenny and Jenna each had a nice play at first.  Jenna had a home run and 3 RBI’s. Sidney had a grand slam.

The Chickadees and the Sparrows met in the inaugural Little Lady Gette League opener and the Chickadees got a great effort from Bridget Murphy, Kaylee Holder and Kailey McDonough.
