MONTANA CLASS A RANKINGS
(MTN Sports Top 5)
1-Billings Central (8-0). Last: Beat Sidney 52-14. Next: at Glendive (4-3)
2-Frenchtown (7-1). Last: Beat Corvallis 50-0. Next: at Stevensville (1-7)
3-Laurel (7-1). Last: Beat Browning 50-0. Next: vs. Havre (3-3)
4-Lewistown (6-1). Last: Beat Livingston 56-0. Next: at East Helena (6-2)
5-Hamilton (6-1). Last: Beat Butte Central 50-7. Next: vs. Corvallis (1-6)
Around Class A: You like points? The top-five squads put up a scoring barrage last week while hammering their opponents by a combined 258-21. Hence, there is no movement in this week's Class A rankings. The top five teams in Class A barely broke a sweat last week, winning their five games by an average of 47.4 points.
Billings Central clinched the Eastern division's top seed with a 52-14 win over Sidney. Hamilton knocked off Butte Central 50-7, while Laurel beat Browning 50-0. Frenchtown defeated Corvallis 50-0, and Lewistown put it on Livingston 56-0.
Columbia Falls also clinched the Northwest A's top seed, joining Frenchtown (Southwest A), Billings Central (Eastern A) and Laurel (Central A) as the other top seeds in Class A.
Upcoming Class A Game of the Week: Fourth-ranked Lewistown will travel to East Helena (6-2) on Friday for a game that will decide the No. 2 seed from the Central A, meaning the winner gets to host a first-round playoff game and the loser will likely have to travel to Sidney to face the Eagles on Swanson Field.
East Helena has never hosted a playoff game or beaten a ranked team. The Vigilantes clinched a playoff berth and a winning season last week with a 35-14 win at Havre. The Vigilantes' only losses this season were a 50-47 shootout against Miles City in Week 1 and a 25-19 squeaker against ranked Laurel. Can they score a top-five win with the playoffs on the horizon or will they be forced to travel east to face Sidney?
The only way Sidney travels in round one is if the Eagles lose to 0-4 Hardin AND Glendive-Wibaux pulls off a major upset and upends the undefeated Billings Central Rams. Highly unlikely! Eagle fans
clear your schedule!

2. Billings Central (9-0). Last week: Beat Miles City 38-0.

3. Dillon (7-1). Last week: Beat Libby 53-6.

Around Class A: In the game of the week last Friday, Lewistown beat previously ranked Havre in a tight game and finds itself back in the rankings at No. 5 entering the postseason. It appears No. 1 Frenchtown and No. 2 Billings Central are the cream of the Class A crop going into the playoffs. The Broncs, Rams, No. 3 Dillon and Laurel all have first-round byes and will host quarterfinal games the weekend of Nov. 8-9. Defending champion Dillon has won five in a row following a two-point loss to Frenchtown on Sept. 20.

Billings Central and Frenchtown have been the best teams all season. The Broncs beat defending state champion Dillon earlier this season and have won games by an average of 33 points. Billings Central beat numerous ranked teams with ease: Lewistown, Laurel, Havre, Miles City, and even East Helena. The Rams are allowing just 8 points per game during the season and won by an average of 32 points.

Dillon's only loss was by seven to Frenchtown, so don't count out the Beavers. Keep an eye on last year's runner-up, Columbia Falls, too. The Wildkats are 6-0 against teams not named Dillon or Frenchtown and have outscored those teams 217-22 with four shutouts.

1. Frenchtown (9-0)

2. Billings Central (9-0)

3. Dillon (7-1)

4. Columbia Falls (6-2)

5. Lewistown (7-2)
