Rangers vs. Comets
October 3, 2011
The Rangers looked sharp tonight with stellar defense and good hitting. The standout defensive play started with the first Comet batter being thrown on from short left field by Brady, who made a strong throw to first to get the surprised batter. Sam did a nice job behind home plate keeping the few Comet base runners allowed by Ranger pitching in check, and throwing out a runner trying to steal third to end the third inning. The Rangers took advantage of many Comet fielding errors and pounded out 10 hits on their way to a 12-1 victory.

Rangers Vs Mavericks
6:00 PM June 14, 2011
The anticipation was high for this championship game between the Rangers and Mavs, and the fans enjoyed one of the best played games of the season. After the Mavs scored one run in the top of the first, the Rangers answered with two runs in the bottom of the first by taking advantage of Mavs walks and errors. The Mavs scored a run in the 4th to tie the score at 2-2. After the Mavs loaded the bases in the top of the sixth with no outs, the Rangers came up with two incredible defensive plays including back-to-back plays at home plate. First, Brady made a great throw from left to Andrew to cut down a runner tagging from third. On the next play Andrew chased down a ball at the backstop and tossed to Dylan to get the runner at home trying to score. The next batter grounded out to end the inning and the Rangers got out of a jam. The Rangers had another play at home in the top of the seventh after Dylan threw from first to Andrew to cut down the runner at home. In the bottom of the seventh with the score still tied the Rangers manufactured a run after a lead of single by Steven. Ryan laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt advancing the runner to second. Michael drove in the winning run with an RBI single to left, scoring Steven after a close play at the plate. What a win! The Rangers are champions with a 3-2 victory!!

The Rangers were as hot as the weather, beating the Leopards 7 to 5. They came out swinging their bats and scoring three runs in the first inning. Matthew batted in three more runs with a nice double in the third inning. Defensively, Ryan had two beautiful catches in centerfield, one during the fourth inning; the other in the sixth. Matthew, Jake and Javier did well on the mound, while Andrew and Michael, in their hot catcher’s gear, worked hard to protect the plate.
Game 2: 6:00 PM Rangers vs. Wranglers
“There was some good baseball today!”
Coach Todd
The good guys continued to produce hits, leading to their win over the Wranglers 6 to 3. Both Charlie and Sam had two RBIs with their doubles to right field in the first and third innings, respectively. Charlie produced six strike outs in his three innings on the mound. Jake’s perseverance at 2nd base on a crazy ground ball led to a pretty out at 1st. With this win, the Rangers were seeded 3rd among 12 teams going into the elimination round.
Game 3: 2:00 PM Rangers vs. Bombers
With the help of substitutes Christian and Javier, as well as injured Hank taking the field, the Rangers once again defeated their foe, this time the Bombers, with a score of 7 to 6. Defensively, the Rangers had some memorable plays. Christian started us off on the mound, throwing three strike outs during his three and a half innings as pitcher. Centerfielder, Sam, launched two great throws home in an attempt to hold the base runners at third. Nice effort, Sam. Javier’s catch for the out at the left field fence was beautiful to watch. In addition, Nate made good-looking plays from 3rd to 1st for several outs. Christian’s 2 RBIs triple and Sam’s 2 RBIs double in the 4th inning kept us in the game and lead us to the win.
Game 4, Semi-Finals, 4:00 PM Rangers vs. Cardinals
Both teams came out swinging with the intention of moving on to the Championship game. The Rangers scored three runs in the first inning, two runs brought in by Charlie’s double to left field and an RBI by Christian. However, the Cardinals four runs in the first and second innings, and three runs in the fifth pretty much sealed the deal that they would win the game. Admirably, the Rangers never gave up and continued to play good baseball. In the third inning, Brady made a great catch in center field, and a Cardinals player was trapped in a pickle between 2nd and 3rd, two big and exciting outs!
Congratulations to the Rangers for playing their hearts out! Injured or not, you showed that you are a tough, competitive team that is a major contender for a title. Well done!!

Game 1: Mavs versus Rangers
While the Rangers beat the Mavs earlier in the season this time it was a different outcome. The Rangers bats were quiet against the tough Mavs’ pitching, getting just three hits and scoring two runs. Nate had the best hit of the game, a hard hit double down the third base line. Final score was Mavs 5 and Rangers 2.

Michael, Charlie and Nate each had an RBI and Matthew had a beautiful bunt down the third baseline for a hit to load the bases in the second. Dylan and Matthew pitched very well and the Ranger’s defense was the best it has been all season with the highlight being Jake’s throw from right field to Brett at home in time to get the runner trying to score. Rangers win 7-4.
Game 4: Rangers versus Mavs:
After a scoreless first inning the Rangers put up two runs in the second with RBIs by Dylan and Hank. The Mavs got two back in the third but the Rangers battled back with two runs in the fifth with a solid double by Charlie driving in two runs. Dylan had a perfect game going before being pulled in the third. Andrew behind the plate threw out two runs trying to steal. After a controversial call at first and home, the Mavs scored two in the bottom of the sixth to win the game by one run. Final score Mavs 5 and Rangers 4.

The Rangers drove to the ball-field Saturday morning as the sun was coming up and it took a couple of innings before the team was fully awake. The Angels took a 7-0 lead after two innings with some good hitting and tough breaks for the Rangers with the early morning sun in their eyes. When the Rangers finally woke up they made a valiant comeback led by Michael’s 3rd inning triple to deep right center which drove in two runs. This was followed by hits from Andrew (RBI) Nate, Ryan and and Charlie’s fly ball to center (RBI). The Angels scored only one run after the second inning. The Rangers loaded the bases in the top of the fifth down by three when Michael was hit by a pitch, making it a two run ballgame. With two outs, Andrew hit a ground ball down the third base line and a charging third baseman threw home for a force on a very close play to end the game. The Rangers lost 8-6 in an exciting game.

With the howling wind at their backs, the Rangers’ pitchers exhibited great control, collectively producing twelve strike outs. Dylan threw six strike-outs in two and a half innings – impressive! Highlights of the game included Brady and Michael’s two beautiful line drives resulting in two RBIs for each batter, Andrew’s awesome throw from third to first for the final out of the game, and Ryan B’s Rangers debut – welcome. The Rangers beat the Astros 9 to 4.

Finally, Opening Day!
Despite the blustery day, the Rangers had a commanding performance against the Mustangs, winning 10 to 1. Each player made significant progress during the off-season, and it showed both on the field and at the plate. Mathew and Charlie were spot-on with their pitching, allowing only one run and recording numerous strikeouts. Andrew had a great day behind the plate, defending errant balls and throwing out a runner trying to steal second. Hank had two put-outs at first base; nice job. Offensively, the Rangers’ bats looked (and sounded!) terrific. Michael’s triple to right field, Nate’s double to left center field and Kolby’s booming double to center field, which drove in three runs, all were an impressive way to start the season. Jake’s perfect squeeze bunt with the bases loaded was perfectly executed! Great work, Rangers!!!!

The Rangers met the Xpress for their second scrimmage of the season. Despite the cold temperature, sloppy field and dim lights, the Rangers started out strong with five runs in the first inning thanks to hits by Brady, Andrew, Sam, Hank and Jake. Hank led the team with 2 RBIs. Jake and Sam also contributed to the RBIs earned. Overall the Rangers' fielding was solid, but offensively, the boys could use some additional batting practice in order to polish off the rust developed over the off-season. Jake led the Rangers as the starting pitcher of the game, allowing no runs or hits. Charlie, Hank and Matthew also pitched well and held the Xpress to just 1 run, resulting in a final game winning score of 6-1. The next scrimmage is Saturday against the NTX Angels.

CHAMPIONS!
Winter baseball sure can be fun! The field was covered with dormant grass as the Rangers, donning winter hats, jackets and gloves to stay warm on this cold and breezy day, met the Lynx in the championship game of the season.
The boys came on strong in the first inning, scoring two runs as a result of aggressive base running by Brady and a hard shot up the middle by Sam which brought in Landis. The Rangers continued to add to their lead in the second inning, with a lead-off double by Michael D. followed by a single and RBI by Hank. Charlie also contributed with an infield hit resulting in an RBI, giving the Rangers a 5-0 lead. In the third inning, Brady walked for the second time and scored again, stealing home on a passed ball. The Rangers scored another two runs in the 4th inning with good base running and another RBI by Michael D. Dylan and Matthew did excellent jobs pitching under very difficult conditions, allowing only three runs behind a solid Rangers defense. With the Rangers up 8-3 heading into the top of the sixth, the boys needed only one run to put the game out of reach and clinch the championship. After loading the bases, Andrew singled to left, driving in the winning run. It was a great team effort and a sweet victory for the boys.
Thank you to all of our wonderful coaches, who are so committed to our boys and give their time, baseball expertise, humor, encouragement and love to the boys. Coach Todd, Coach Larry, Coach Gary, Coach Stuart and Coach Dean – thank you for unifying this group of boys by encouraging them to work hard and, as a result, have loads of fun.

It was a cold humid and windy night when the Rangers sporting their red uniforms entered the playoffs with a Monday night double header. The third seed Rangers played the Angels in their first playoff game. The Angels were winless during the regular season, but they made this game closer than a lot of fans expected, especially with only eight players. The Rangers were slow to get their bats working but Nate, Charlie, Sam, Dylan, Brady and Hank each drove in a run. Charlie, Jake and Matthew took the mound and held the Angels to just one hit! The defensive play of the game was when Andrew, catcher, threw the ball to Sam at SS to catch an Angel trying to steal 2nd base. It wasn’t pretty, but the Rangers did what they needed to advance to the semi-final game winning 7-4.

The Rangers faced off against the Sand-Gnats for the second time in as many games, and the outcome was, not surprising, the same. The Rangers got steady pitching from Matthew, Charlie and Hank, resulting in another shut-out against this team. The boys looked a little tired early in the game (perhaps because of the 8:00 pm start), but once they started to get on base, they tore up the base-paths with aggressive base-running, resulting in 11 runs. The defensive highlight of the game was Hank’s perfect throw from right field to Andrew at home, who then threw to third baseman Nate, resulting in a tag-out. It was a glorious Sunday afternoon for baseball as the Rangers faced off against the Texas Lynx. In this low scoring game the Rangers generated three runs, with RBI’s from Hank and Kyle and a double steal generating the third run. There were several hard hit balls by the Rangers; unfortunately, they all seemed to find their way into the Lynx’s gloves. The Rangers got solid pitching from Dylan and Matthew, as they allowed just three runs behind a stellar Rangers defense. Notable defensive plays included Landis’ catch in left field and Nathan’s back-to-back routine plays from third to first to end the game. Nathan, you made it look easy! After a number of interesting calls by the umpires, the game ended in a 3 -3 tie.

Michael D’s blazing bat brought in 4 RBIs. Defensively, Landis had a great catch and throw from centerfield to home, just missing the out. Quinn, Charlie and Jake pitched well. Great effort!

Matthew, Charlie and Jake all performed admirably on the mound, with Matthew striking out the side in the second inning. The Play of the Game defensively came in the fourth inning. Hank (at 3rd) charged the plate on a fake bunt, and Kyle (at SS) slid over to cover third base while Andrew (at catcher) threw the base runner out on 3rd. Nice job!! There were many solid defensive plays in the game, but the back-to-back catches by Michael Smith in right field qualify as “web gems”. The last time the Rangers faced the Giants, the gamed ended in a tie, but the outcome Sunday was different, and resulted in an impressive win for the Rangers. The Rangers played their best defensive game of the year, giving up only two runs in five innings. Matthew and Charlie had their A games yesterday, holding the Giants’ hitters to only one base runner after the first inning, and giving up only one walk in the game. The pitching was supported by tight defensive plays by the Rangers, with the highlight being Hank’s throw from deep left center to Andrew, who put the tag on a surprised Giant player, who couldn’t believe he was tagged out at second after hitting the ball to the fence. Great play! The Rangers’ bats were working too, putting up eight runs with key hits from Hank, Sam, Andrew and Brady. It was Charlie’s triple and Mathew’s RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that finally put the game out of reach. Final score was Rangers 8 and Giants 2.

The Scouts demonstrated why they are the first place team with many well hit balls that resulted in 14 runs. The Rangers fought back and never gave up, and were rallying once again in the final inning when time was called. There were many solid hits by the Ranger players, including three hits by Kyle and two by Nathan, who broke his hitting slump in a big way on Saturday. The best hit of the day though goes to Andrew, with a big triple down the third base line. The final score as time was called was 14-9 Scouts.

The adrenaline was flowing from both benches as the Rangers and Giants met on the field Monday night. Several players from each team knew each other, so the stakes were high and the competition was fierce. It was a defensive battle the first five innings, with each side getting only two hits resulting in a tied score of 2-2. With two strikes against him in the second inning, Sam hit a nice single to right field to drive in a run, and Landis led off the fourth inning with a hard line drive to left field. Notable defensive plays included catcher Daniel’s throw to Jake at third to tag out a runner trying to steal, and Jake’s strong throw for the out at first base on a grounder to third which ended the fourth inning. The Giants hit the ball well in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five runs and putting them up 7-2. This rivalry is definitely not over…Stay tuned!
