Information on All Tennis Club Tournaments

 

There is a $5.00 fee.  This fee will cover the expenses for balls, trophies and engraving as well as the supplies needed for the social events associated with the tournament program.  NOTE:  This one fee covers all events.  All tournaments are on Saturdays, except where noted.  Please refer to this site's tennis schedule for exact dates.

 

ROCK 'N' ROLL TENNIS:
Date:              Saturday, January 7
Time:              8:45 AM to 11:30 AM
Description:    This a fun event early in the season and will familiarize players with the tie-break format.  Continuous rock 'n' roll music will be played at the courts during play, and players will experience numerous different partners, which will be chosen by the tournament coordinator.
Skill Level:       All
No. of Players: Unlimited
Winners:          One team will win the event.


MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT:
Date:                Saturday, January 14
Time:                8:45 AM to 3:00 PM
Description:      This is the unofficial ladies, men's and/or open doubles championship.  The partners are determined by a lottery draw.      The format is full sets or mini-set round robin.
Skill Level:         All
No. of Players:  24, with some room for flexibility.

Winners:           Will be determined within each division.

NOTE:  Since this is a memorial tournament, it is played in memory of a player(s) who has passed away during the year.  In memoriam for 2017:  Rose Crawford, Don Kelly, Bucky Wells. 


DAVIS CUP TOURNAMENT:
Date:                 Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4
Time:                 Friday (PM) and Saturday 8:45 (AM)
Description:       Biggest tournament of the season.  This tournament is skill-based, as well as team-based.  Every effort is made to establish parity between the four teams.  Generally, four divisions are established for competition.  Points accumulated by each division are of equal value.  Partners are chosen by the tournament coordinator.
Format:  Round robin format, with 8 game sets; modified rules.
Skill Level:        All but totally novice players
No. of Players:  32
Winners:           1) Division Winners and 2) Winning Team (aggregate score)

NOTE:  A dinner-dance is traditionally held the evening of tournament end.


CAN/AM FRIENDSHIP GAMES:
Date:                Saturday, February 11
Time:                8:45 AM to 5:00 PM
Description:      This is a complex hybrid tournament where player matchups are taken into consideration.  The tournament can accommodate 32 players in four divisions.  Players compete as a team as well as individually.  A player is matched against a player of equal ability, by the tournament coordinator.  American players face the same American opponent 4 times, while the Canadian player faces his counterpart twice in a round robin format.  Every American plays with every Canadian in his/her division.
Skill Level:        All levels; divisions will be balanced.
No. of Players:  24 or 32, depending on registration
Winners:           An American and a Canadian winner for each division.

 

MASTERS TOURNAMENT:
Date:                Friday, February 24
Time:                8:45 AM
Description:      This tournament is specific to players 70 years of age and older.  The tournament format may be consolation, double elimination or round robin, depending on the number of teams registered.  The tournament is open to both male and female players.  The teams may be two ladies, two men, or mixed.  You may chose a partner or opt to leave it up to the tournament coordinator to chose your partner for you.
Skill Level:        All skill levels with everyone competing in the same tournament.  Unbalanced matches are possible.
No. of Players:  Ideally 8 players, but numbers are flexible.
Winners:           1) Championship Team, 2) Consolation Winners or Runners up.

 

TEDDY BEAR TOURNAMENT:
Date:                 Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11
Time:                 Friday and Saturday 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM
Description:       THE MOST competitive tournament of the tournament program.  Participants must change partners every year, with every effort to play with a new partner.  The tournament will divide, following the first round into the Championship Division.  Tier II Tournament teams can either register directly for the Tier II Tournament, or attempt to qualify for the Championship Tournament.  A team failing to qualify for the Championship Tournament will be relegated to Tier II for competition.  Following the first round, completion will be single-elimination or consolation, depending on time available or teams registered.  You choose your own partner.
Skill Level:        All skill levels, remembering that this is a competitive tournament.
No. of Players:  Maximum 16 teams.
Winners:           1) Championship Team.  (The team members' names will be engraved on a plaque.)  2) Tier II Winners.


MIXER TOURNAMENT:
Date:                 Saturday, November 11
Time:                 8:45 AM to 12:00 Noon
Description:       This low-key tournament, held in November, is to welcome back returning players and to meet new players.  A round robin format has coordinator-selected teams.
Skill level:           All.  The tournament is based on luck and skill.
No. of Players:    Maximum 28
Winners:             Winning team accumulated most points.


CHRISTMAS TENNIS:
Date:                  Saturday, December 9
Time:                  8:45 AM
Description:        Fun morning of tennis!  Non-competitive.  Scores do not count.  Continuous Christmas music will be played at the courts during play,  Partners are chosen in a unique way.
Skill Level:         All but beginners
No. of Players:   16
