Operational Rules

ATTIRE: Shirts and tennis shoes are required.

SIGN-IN: Required before playing except for posted open tennis hours.

COURT: May be reserved for one hour (on the hour) by signing in not more than two days in advance. Reservation is automatically cancelled if there is a "no show" at ten minutes past the hour. (See "Rules for Booking Courts" below.)

PLAYERS: Must relinquish court after their hour of play. Play may continue by signing in for an additional hour if no one else is signed in and waiting.

PRACTICE: The practice board may be used only if court #1 is available and no one is signed in and waiting to play. The court may not be reserved for such practice.

OPEN: Tennis sessions will provide everyone with an equal opportunity to play regardless of skill level.  A court not in use during Open Tennis hours is available for play by anyone.  This rule applies to all programs, as we do not want courts to be unused.  For example: if only one court is used at 11:00 am on Tuesdays for Men's Competitive, the other court is available to anyone.

LIGHTS: Used for night play; must be turned off when play is completed.

Rules for Booking Courts

1. In order for everyone to get a chance to play, bookings are to be made in 2 hour increments.  They should be made no more than two days in advance.

2. Crossed out time slots indicate permanent club programs and cannot be booked.

3. Please use stickers to book court time. The booking stickers are inside the bulletin board case at the courts.

4. Please remove stickers after play.

Rules for Choosing Sides

Choosing Sides - Receiving or Serving:

When playing friendly games, choosing sides is often taken for granted. There may be times, however, when choosing sides (receiving or serving) is an important part of winning a match. Factors in making the decision are: the wind, the position of the sun, the strength of the servers.

Here, for your information, is the International Tennis Federation's (Rule #8) proper proceure for making the choice:

Choice of receiving or serving is determined by a coin toss or a racket spin, as follows:

1. The winner may choose to be the server or receiver. The opponent then chooses which side on which he/she wishes to play.

2. If the winner wishes to choose the side on which to play, then the opponent can choose to be the server or the receiver.

3. The winner may also force the opponent to choose one of the above options.
