Annual Victoria Day Weekend Tournament The Lisle Baseball Club has hosted an Annual Victoria Day Weekend Tournament since the early 1960s. However, before this date, Lisle held an annual tournament on Labour Day Weekend in September. The Victoria Day Tournament has been a successful event for both the Lisle club and as an early event for other teams in the North Dufferin Baseball League. It provides an opportunity for the Lisle club to fundraise, but more importantly the tournament, which is at the beginning of the baseball season provides an early-season warm up and to meet with old friends on other teams. At one point, the League had no games scheduled before the Tournament and thus it was a chance to see who was on what team and to judge the teams in the upcoming season. However, currently the schedule starts before the Tournament. The Tournament has been held every year with a few exceptions. In 2001 it was decided that it would not be held for various reasons. In 2003, the Tournament was supposed to be played in June for better weather, but that date was also cancelled. In 2019 and 2020 the Township Council would not approve of a liquor licence. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 prevented the hosting of the tournament. Weather has always been a major factor and games have been played in snow, rain or stifling heat, and every year it can be something different. Whatever the weather, great baseball is still played. The Tournament has also ranged over a one, two or three day tournament depending on entries. For the past few years, Saturday and Sunday have been used with Monday being an extra day in case of inclement weather or other delays. The champions of the Annual Victoria Day Weekend Tournament can be found below. For additional information on the present year’s Tournament, please view the Tournaments link.
