Pitch Count & Other Pitching Rules

SPYBA uses the MLB Pitch Smart - Pitching Guidelines as outlined below:

Age Daily Max
(Pitches in a Day)
    REST PERIOD
0 Days Rest 1 Day Rest 2 Days Rest 3 Days Rest 4 Days Rest
8-10 (Our Minors Division) 75 1-20 21-35 36-50 51-65 66+
11-12 (Our Majors Division) 85 1-20 21-35 36-50 51-65 66+
  • Players may not pitch in multiple games on the same day.
  • Pitchers, once removed from the mound, may not return as pitchers.
  • A player may not pitch in three consecutive games played by their team, regardless of the number of days between games.
    • If a player pitches in Game 1 and Game 2, they must not pitch in Game 3. The player becomes eligible to pitch again in Game 4, provided they did not pitch in Game 3 and as long as they are not otherwise restricted by mandatory rest periods due to pitch count limits.
  • Rest periods are full calendar days, not based on hours.
    • If a pitcher pitches on Monday and requires 2 days rest. They may not pitch again until Thursday.
    • In this example: Pitch Monday, Rest Tuesday, Rest Wednesday, Available Thursday.
  • Maximum Pitch Exception: If a pitcher reaches their daily max limit while facing a batter, they may finish pitching to that batter before being removed from the mound.
  • Any violation of pitching rules will result in forfeiting the game.
    • The withdrawal of an ineligible pitcher after that pitcher is announced, or after a warm-up pitch is delivered, but before that player has pitched a ball to a batter, shall not be considered a violation.
