Interesting end to 2017 Fall Classic

The final day of the tournament started with the final game of the round robin between the Brooklin Dodgers and Montreal Mets. The Mets would prevail in a tight contest, 2-1, winning Division "A" with a 3-0 record and securing the top seed position with a +/- rating of +21.

In Semi-Final #1 the Montreal Mets would face off against the Royal York Cardinals who secured the Wildcard spot. The Mets would defeat the Cardinals 4-2 to secure their spot in the tournament final.

In Semi-Final #2 the Muskoka Moose Knuckles took on the SABL All-Stars in what turned out to be a marathon game, as it took 15 innings and lasted 4 hours, with the Moose Knuckles booking their spot in the final with a 7-5 win.

So this set up a final for the 2017 Fall Classic with two past champions. However due to the length of the one semi-final, the fact both teams had basically played two games already and Montreal looking ahead to a long trip home, the two teams decided to forego playing the final and agreed to be co-champs and split the prize money. A class act on both sides!

So we would like to congratulate our 2017 Fall Classic Tournament Co-Champions, the Muskoka Moose Knuckles and Montreal Mets and all the teams who took part this year, on a fun and great tournament!

Great day of baseball

The Round Robin portion of the 2017 Fall Classic Tournament was played under bright sunny skies, with a bit of a chill for the early and late games. The Round Robin is not over though, as the Montreal Mets and Brooklin Dodgers are set to play at 9am to decide who will win the division and move on to the Semi-Finals. Teams waiting to see who they will play in the playoffs are the SABL All-Stars who finished off the Round Robin with a perfect 3-0 in Division "C" and the Muskoka Moose Knuckles won the "B" Division with a 2-0-1 record tied with the Royal York Cardinals but having a higher +/- ranking. Royal York now waits and hopes that the Mets and Dodgers do not end their game in a tie. If this should happen then the Mets and Dodgers would also end up with 2-0-1 records. So the Mets would win "A" Division with a +/- of +20 and the Dodgers would get the wildcard with a +/- of +8 while the Cardinals have a +7. If either the Mets or Dodgers win their game then the cardinals are the Wildcard team. So still very much intrigue left.

SUNDAYS SCHEDULE:

Mets vs. Dodgers - 9:00am @ Clarington Fields SW

Semi-Final #1 - 11:30am @ Clarington Fields SW

Semi-Final #2 - 11:30am @ Clarington Fields NW

Stay tuned for updates on Sunday!

Mother Nature plays havoc with opening of 2017 Fall Classic

Well after weeks of no rain, Mother Nature decided to flex her muscles and run rough shod over the start of the 2017 Fall Classic Tournament. The rain forced the postponement of the tournaments opening game between host Brooklin Dodgers and the always playoff bound Montreal Mets. The game will be played on Saturday but the time and venue are still to be decided.

The second whammy was the fact the weather wiped out Soper Creek to the point that tournament organizers did not feel comfortable leaving games scheduled there on Saturday. So all 5 games were moved to Ritson Field in Oshawa. As well since there are no lights at Ritson, the games needed to be moved up an hour. First game starts at Ritson Field on Saturday at 9am.

So the weather looks great for Saturday and Sunday and everyone looks forward to no more major issues and a great tournament.

check back for scores all day Saturday!

So with the addition of the White Sox the tournament will see 3 divisions of 4 teams competing all weekend in Clarington at Clarington Fields and Soper Creek. The tournament will kick off on Friday September 29th with an 8:00pm game at Clarington Fields SW between the host Brooklin Dodgers and the Montreal Mets. The rest of the Round Robin games will be played on Saturday September 30th, with the Semi-Finals and Final to be played on Sunday October 1st.

Deadline looming, tournament up to 6 teams

As things are moving along for the number of interested teams currently sits at 16 with 6 of those teams having confirmed their spots. The 6th team is the:

Mississauga Cardinals (MMBL)

Some more good news surfaced just before the weekend, when tournament organizers were informed that a second diamond in Clarington had become available on Saturday Sept. 30th, which means that teams can breath a sigh of relief that they do not have to travel to Kendal for games.

So with the deadline this coming Friday September 15th, tournament organizers are shooting for a 12 team tournament but have the capability to host up to 16 teams.

Looking forward to what should be a week filled with team confirmations.
