CLASSIC Basketball Program

This is a competitive basketball program, it's for the more experienced player looking for a higher level of competition than your recreational league. Our program is open to 4th - 8th grade boys and girls. Teams are formed through a tryout process which is overseen by the GBA as well as the varsity coaching staff of Gladstone High School. Board members and non-parent coaches are involved with players evaluation during the tryout process.  All tryouts are closed to parents.

GBA Playing Time Guidelines by Grade Level (Tournament)

For all tournament games, players on each team are expected to have a minimum average playing time, calculated across the entire tournament (typically 4 games). Please review the specific guidelines for each grade level:

  • 4th & 5th Grade Teams
Players must average 12+ minutes per game over the course of the tournament.

  • 6th Grade Teams
Players must average 10+ minutes per game over the course of the tournament.

  • 7th & 8th Grade Teams
Players must average 6+ minutes per game over the course of the tournament.

Important Notes:

  • Playing time is tracked as an average. This means a player may play more than the required minutes in one game and less in another. The total average over all games in the tournament must meet the minimum requirements.

  • Reasons for Reduced Playing Time:
Playing time may be reduced due to factors such as:

    • Poor behavior
    • Poor sportsmanship
    • Lack of effort
    • Missing practice
  • Enforcement of Guidelines:
Coaches will be contacted by a GBA Board Member if they repeatedly fail to meet these playing time standards. Failure to follow the guidelines without justifiable cause may result in coach dismissal.

GBA "In District" & "Out of District" Players - Eligibility Requirements

All players that live in Gladstone (have a Gladstone address), OR attend any school within the Gladstone city limits (public or private school) are considered "In District" players, and will get first priority in GBA team placement.  Players that do not meet a GBA "In District" requirement are considered "Out of District" players. Out of District players may be allowed to participate in GBA, but can only be considered for placement on a GBA team if space is available after all In District players are placed. In addition, GBA must get approval/release from the player's home district, and the GBA Board must approve team placement of an Out of District player by a 2/3 vote.
