Challenger Baseball tryouts are open to high school juniors and seniors who either live in the school district or attend any high school located in the school district, and were born after January 1, 2005.  All high school players who played either junior varsity or varsity baseball in the current season will be invited to the tryouts. The tryouts will be conducted by the Challenger Baseball coaching staff and outside evaluators.  If the coaches believe they still have areas of need, they may go back to the high school coaches to fill out the roster.

FAQs

Do I need to register for the tryout?
We highly encourage all prospective athletes to register beforehand to ensure accurate player information and eligibility.

Who runs and evaluates the tryout?
Both the Challenger Baseball coaching staff and non-affiliated third parties will run the tryout and help select the roster.

How many players make the team?
American Legion rules allow for a maximum of 18 players on an official roster.

Is there a possibility of two teams?
If there is enough interest and commitment from prospective athletes, Challenger Baseball would consider having two Legion teams.

Can I play for Challenger and a club team?
No. Due to the short season and limited roster, we ask all athletes to be committed to only Challenger Baseball.

What type of time commitment can be expected?
Due to the short season, we expect all Challenger athletes to attend most, if not all, practices, games, and tournaments.  Typically, there will about 4-5 games/practices per week. However, we understand athletes will have to miss some games or practices occasionally due to family, school, or job obligations.

When will I find out if I made the team?
The roster will be posted on the website HERE by Wednesday, May 1 at 9:00pm.

Can I still play Legion baseball if I don't make the Challenger team?
Any tryout participant who does not make the Challenger Baseball team is eligible to play for another Legion team.  More information can be found HERE.

If I make the team, what are the costs involved?
The player fee for 2024 is $475.00.  This covers expenses such as jerseys, hats, undershirts, umpires, coaches, etc.  Additional player/family expenses may include travel and hotel costs, equipment, optional additional apparel, etc.
