The 2018 Manitoba Winter Games powered by Manitoba Hydro will be held March 4th-7th in Thompson. The Ringette competition is open to U14 girls (Born in 2004-2005 - AA players are not eligible). Each region will select only one team from all girls registered with the above noted birth years and participated in the spring skills camp. Age exceptions may be made in the case of Brandon and Thompson to ensure they have enough athletes to field a team for the games. Those who are selected to represent their region will then compete against players from all the other regions in the province at the games.
Ringette Manitoba and the coaching staff will work together to run the tryouts. Coaching staff will be responsible for evaluating all athletes and selecting the final team. Tryout dates and information will be sent out as soon as they are confirmed. We will only be holding one set of tryouts in the fall, with the team being selected shortly after. There will no longer be an additional tryout in December.
All athlete participants competing at the Manitoba Games will be assessed a $175.00 registration fee by Sport Manitoba. This fee will cover a walk on uniform, all transportation, accommodations and meals at the Games. There will also be a minimal cost for the athlete's competitive jersey.
Ground transportation will be provided to teams to and from Thompson as well as while they are there. All athletes (under 18 years of age) are required to stay in the athlete's village. They will be properly chaperoned by their coaches and manager who must also stay in the village (there will be a female and male village). Sport Manitoba will set a curfew for all participants; it is expected that all athletes, coaches, and managers must adhere to curfew times. Parents/Guardians wishing to attend the Games are not allowed in the village, they are responsible for securing their own transportation and accommodations, if required.
Once the final team is chosen, it is expected that the athlete's priority is their regular club team, not their Manitoba Games team. The coaches will do their very best to work around the practice and game schedules for the players on their team. All athletes participating in the games MUST also be registered on a regular league team with Ringette Manitoba.
There will likely be additional costs incurred above and beyond the registration fee and jersey. Any practice ice, exhibition games, team bonding activities, etc. will be the responsibility of the team themselves.
Selection to a Manitoba Winter Games team will require missing school for Monday March 5th up to and including Wednesday March 7th.
