AVS TOPPLE ADMIRALS TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
.....Tuesday, April 25, 2006..."The changing of the guard" at the WDC as the Avalanche defeat the defending RLC champion Admirals, 8-4, before a sell-out crowd!!! The Avs jumped-out to an early 3-0 lead only to have it dwindle shortly into the 2nd period, but the Avs turned the jets back on and went on to out-score the Admirals 5-1 the rest of the way highlighted by forward Dave LeClair's (5) goals; he was named the Championship Tournament "MVP". With the (5) goals, LeClair passes the "200" goal mark, becoming the first player in team history to reach that milestone. He now has "201" goals. Avs' defenseman Mark Matarainen added a "pretty" goal along with (3) assists for (4) points and did an outstanding job blocking shots and being a key "play maker".
.....For the Avs, tonight's game was the pinnacle of all performances; not only for the CHAMPIONSHIP, but how the team maintained their determination and gelled together. Forward Steve Price played another outstanding "two-way" game and added a goal and (2) assists for (3) points. Avs' defensemen Jared Allen (MVD) and Chris Babcock each added (2) points in the victory and forwards Greg Jacobs and Ray Malinosky came off the bench to contribute a few solid shifts.
.....The "deciding" moment came as the Avs held a 7-4 lead with just a few minutes to go in the game and defenseman Chris Babcock vigorously maneuvered his way down low and went "top shelf" on Admirals' goaltender Scott Perry to make it an 8-4 game.
.....Avalanche goaltender Tom "The Iceman" Brissett was "focused" and "ready" tonight. He saved 27 of 31 shots and denied the Admirals' top offensive arsenol of Gary Hribko and Mark Spain time and time again. "Tommy" did a masterful job of controlling his rebounds, flashing the leather, and covering-up like a bloodied-rabid wolverine protecting his cubs in a den full of ravenous baboons! "The Iceman really played with confidence and stamina. He (Tom)put that first game behind him and turned-up the volume for the past two games", commented defenseman Mark Matarainen. "Hey, those guys (Avs' defense) executed and provided the protection I needed to maintain my focus and position", said an elated Tom Brissett to anxiously awaiting reporters and photographers outside the team club house.
....."I'm very proud of my boys, we showed spirit and heart especially being blown-out after the first game, to comeback and win two in a row the way WE did. Tommy had some big shoes to fill after we lost Damian just before the playoffs, and he came through with flying colors. Tommy was sensational and by showing the character and skill that he did, I really believe that he elevated our boys to a level beyond expectations", commented team Captain and forward Ray Malinosky during the post-game celebration....rumor mill paparazzi report that he (Malinosky) was later seen exiting the arena in a black and gray limo escorted by younger celebrity female who apperared to be Jessica Alba. Jennifer Lopez reportedly sent Malinosky a "good luck" telegram just before the opening face-off as Malinosky was heard saying, "damn, she just can't take a hint, we're through".
....The acquisition of Jared Allen last season has finally paid-off as he played a remarkable season and playoff series. His ball-control, passing, skating, speed, and maneuverability were essential in bringing the Avs to where they are today...ON TOP BABY!.....CONGRATS AGAIN GUYS, WE DID IT...ALLEN, BRISSETT, BABCOCK, JACOBS, LeCLAIR, MALINOSKY, MATARAINEN, PRICE, AND ZURI....WINTER, 2006, WATERBURY DEK HOCKEY ROLLER "C" DIVISION CHAMPIONS*****************
