Obituary

Gough, Glenn James

Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on November 8th 2023 at the age of 81.
Beloved husband of Linda Bourgeois. Loving father of Brandon Gough, Darren Gough (Sherry) and Elizabeth Barrett (Jason) and lovingly remembered by their mother Carole Stanley. Loved Stepfather of Chantelle Bourgeois (Dean Link) and Brian Bourgeois.

Cherished grandfather of Sydney Gough, Brooke & Cole Barrett, Emily & Benjamin Link, Luke, Hannah & Piper Bourgeois.

Survived by his sister Joan Lackstone (late Allan).

Glenn would always say that he knew more about baseball than most people. To put it lightly Glenn was a driven baseball fanatic. His passion for sports in general was well known especially his love of the Leafs and Blue Jays. He played baseball and could be heard by anyone within a ¼ mile range yelling “I got it! I got it! I got it!” as he patrolled the outfield like a pro. He worked in sales from health and beauty and in the food industry with Robin Hood Multifoods. He became one of the first franchise owners in Canada for Subway (Sandwiches & Salads), during his entire working career he always made connections with people as he was very much a people person.

Family and friends will be welcomed at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home (5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby) on Sunday November 19th from 1:00 - 4:00 for a Celebration of Life Visitation.

In Memory of Glenn, donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Linda MacKenzie passing

This is the wife of Ralph Mackenzie who played with MORSL for many years...

Mackenzie, Linda

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Linda Mackenzie on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in her 71st year.  After an extended illness, she passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband Ralph at her side.  Beloved mother of David and his wife Gretchen.  Sister of Sandra and Brian and his wife, Charlotte.  Proud grandmother of Jasper, Mariah and Ivy, she loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family.  She was the loving daughter of the late Norman and Catherine Davis of Orillia, Ontario.

The MORSL family sends our condolences out to Ralph and his family..... may she rest in peace.

Steve was also part of the MORSL family for many years - our condolences go out to his family.

Obituary of Stephen Henry McLeod

With sadness we announce the passing of Stephen Henry McLeod, 70, of Markham, Ont., peacefully on Jan 21, 2021. Steve was a beloved father, grandfather (“Gramps”), son, brother, and friend to many. He had an unforgettable laugh and loved making people smile.

Steve leaves behind his four children Chris (Tennille), Julia (Ben), Stacey (Andrew) and Elizabeth (Mathieu) and their families, as well as brothers Charles “Chuck” (Gale) and John “Jack” (Elsie), sisters Clara and Linda (Brian), nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Grace (nee Camber) McLeod, his sister Annie Rayner and brother Mac, and his brother-in-law Floyd.

Steve grew up in Paddockwood, Saskatchewan. Even as a young boy, he had an unforgettable laugh, big smile and a joke for everyone he met. He attended college in Moose Jaw, Royal Roads Military College in British Columbia, and the University of Toronto, where he studied accounting. After moving to Toronto, he went on to work as VP of sales at Seiko Watches before starting his own company.

Steve moved to Markham in the 1980s where he became an active community member, known to many. Steve was always on the go, involving himself in many activities. Whether it was coaching or playing sports, getting involved with local businesses, volunteering with Kiwanis and the Masonic Lodge, or socializing, Steve was always looking for opportunities to enjoy time with friends.

In his 40s, Steve suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that changed the course of his life but he made the most of living with new challenges. Steve gave talks to M.A.D.D. and others about his injury and the impacts of traumatic brain injuries, and he volunteered his time to assist others facing the same challenges.

Special thanks to Steve’s many dear friends and all those who supported him. Steve requested that a funeral not be held, however a celebration of life will be planned at a future date. In the meantime, the family asks that in lieu of flowers or donations you make a special effort to support a local business in his honour, including T&T Bakery and Cafe on Main Street Markham, which was a favourite stop for him each day.

Paul was born and raised in Toronto and graduated from Ryerson University in 1969. He lived in Markham for 31 years and retired to Wasaga Beach.

He was involved in Markham men’s slo-pitch leagues as a player, captain and executive member. He loved draft days and looked forward to meeting his new teammates each year. After meeting Liz, he took on coaching in the Markham Women’s Slo-Pitch League. He enjoyed the social aspect, even though his third base coaching would be ignored at times. In all his involvement in Markham slo-pitch, he loved the friendships he made and support he received over the years.

In his later years, he excelled at training the backyard chipmunks and outsmarting the squirrels (or trying to).

In 2007, Paul received an organ transplant at Toronto General Hospital. This Gift of Life gave him thirteen extra years with his family, and allowed him to watch his grandson grow up. Paul and his family were forever grateful to the UHN Transplant Team, the donor and the family of the donor.

Memorial donations can be made to your local hospice. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

Passing of Sandra Lumley

Cliff Lumley was part of the MORSL family for years and many will know him from his pitching and hitting the gaps.  Sandra was the love of his life for 64 years.

                                                Sandra Sue Lumley

                                                                                                         Cliff's picture from 2009

Sandra Lumley (nee Maynard) Friend – Lover – Mother – Grandmother After a difficult struggle, Sandra Lumley (nee Maynard) passed away peacefully on April 9, 2022, in her 79th year. Like with all things in her life, Sandra courageously met the challenge of breast cancer in 2020, but sadly it came back with a vengeance in late 2021, aggressively and painfully attacking her bones. She not only faced the cruel diagnosis head on, but she comforted those around her with her unshakeable faith and helped to prepare us for the inevitable and unthinkable, a world without her, our rock. Sandra is missed dearly by Cliff Lumley, her beloved husband of more than 57 years, their three daughters, Lisa, Paula (Kirk Tobias), and Leah (Oguz Altinbilek), and precious grandchildren Justin (Racquel), Ryan, Liberty, Brooklyn, and Paige. Predeceased by her parents Harry and Hellen (nee Denby) Maynard. Sandra was born and raised in Unionville, the third of seven children, and went to Markham District High School where at the age of 15 she met the love of her life, Cliff. Little did she know then, that first school dance would lead to a lifetime of adventures together. Sandra had a wide variety of interests and her life centred on Cliff, raising their three girls, and she took great delight in her grandchildren. Together they travelled across Canada and the US taking in historic and cultural sites with their young family, appreciating cottage time with friends and family, and always enjoying the company of close friends – making lasting memories and forging lifelong bonds of friendship. Sandra was well satisfied with life and she thoroughly enjoyed whatever it was she was currently engaged in, whether it was volunteering for a local cause, baking something delicious, being with a grandchild at the local creek looking for tadpoles, tending to her lush gardens, cruising with her professional driver at the wheel, reading, or searching for treasures at yard sales and antique markets – from Markham to Florida. Like her mother Hellen, Sandra’s baking skills were renown and happily she passed these skills onto her grandchildren who baked with grandma from a very young age with all of them understanding the secret ingredient in any recipe, especially peanut butter cookies, is love. Her many friends knew when they dropped in for tea and a visit there would be some delicious home baking on offer. Sandra cultivated rich friendships and those of us she has left behind in this world, are comforted to imagine her reunited with her good friends Holly and Anne who predeceased her, and the tea talks they are now once again enjoying together. She will be sadly missed by many close friends, her siblings Robert Maynard (Sharon), Gail Clarkson (Robert), Pauline Maynard (Chris Melerowicz), Glenna Maynard, Laurel Peden, and Bette Maynard, her dear sister-in-law Carolyn Murphy, and her many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Wong, Dr. Trinkaus, Dr. Yuen and the team at the Cancer Clinic at Markham Stouffville Hospital. The family is most grateful to Dr. Dai and the very attentive and caring staff of the Palliative Care Unit for making Sandra’s final days as comfortable as possible. Having such a wonderful hospital within Markham was something Sandra felt passionately about and fundraising for the construction of the original hospital was something she gladly devoted her time and energy to. A private family funeral service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Condolences and memories can be shared online at dixongarland.com
