YOUTH BASEBALL STARTS MONDAY MAY 6

Just a reminder that Seymour Youth Baseball practices start tomorrow Monday May 6.

7/8 League, 9/10 League, and 11/12 League will practice on Mon May 6 and Wed May 8, while Tee League and PeeWee League will practice on Tue May 7 and Thu May 9.  Check the website for the full summer schedule for your team.

We still have a need for additional coaching help at the 7/8 and 11/12 levels.  The 7/8 Grey team only has 1 coach for 11 kids, while the 7/8 Black team does NOT have a head coach.  Although the Black team does have 2 part time coaches, they will not be there all the practices and games due to work commitments.  On the days they can not be there, practices/games will be cancelled unless other parents step forward to help.   The 11/12 team only has 2 coaches for 16 kids, and definitely could use other parents to help out.

We encourage parents who are there to watch your kids to check with the coaches on the field to see where you can assist them.  The SBA does not have paid coaches to run our youth programs, and depends on parent volunteers to step forward to help.

Thank you,
Jim NIespodzany
President - SBA

SUMMARY OF 2024 PARENT MEETINGS

YOUTH TOURNEY CONCESSION WORKERS SCHEDULE

COACHES NEEDED

The SBA is in need of volunteer coaches for Tee League, PeeWee League, 7/8 League, and the 11/12 League.

Currently we have 1 coach for Tee League, NO coaches for PeeWee, 2 coaches for the 7/8 League, and NO coaches for the 11/12 League.

Seymour Youth Baseball does NOT have any paid coaches, and depends entirely on volunteer coaches to lead our programs.  We provide coach training, and also mentoring as needed.  Our goal is to have 2 coaches for each team.  So, we will need 1 more coach for Tee League, 2 coaches for the PeeWee level, 4 more coaches for the 7/8 league, and 2 coaches for the 11/12 team.

SBA UPDATES CONCESSION STAFFING POLICY

Over the past few years, the SBA has struggled with how best to encourage our baseball families to volunteer to help with concession staffing scheduling.  Concession sales are a major part of the fundraising that occurs during our youth tournament.  We have also attempted to provide concessions during our 10U, 12U, and 14U league games, but with very limited success.  The other teams in those leagues do a good job with providing concessions during games, and we would like to do that as well.

Most communities in our area assign each family to a concession time slot, and then expect that commitment to be honored.  Unfortunately, that didn't always happen, and then that time slot was either filled by another family staying over, or the slot was left open, and concessions were not available.  So, in order to make sure those time slots are always filled, most communities now require that their families write a $100 refundable check to their association, and then the check is returned once the concession staffing assignment is completed.

The SBA has been reluctant to intiate the $100 check program, but the board has now decided that it will take effect with the upcoming season.   Each family that participates in our 8U -12U Tourney Teams, 9/10 League, 11/12 League, 13U Babe Ruth, and 14U Babe Ruth programs will be required to write a $100 refundable check to the SBA, and bring it to the Parent Meeting on April 10.  Failure to do so will restrict your son's participation in our programs.

Thanks for your continued support of Seymour Youth Baseball.
