Summerside Week in Review + St Catherines Club Roma Tiamo Festival

July 20, 2024

Tiamo Festival is on in St Catherines, and Southend United Summerside A Team tore off to a great start with a 4-1 win over the home side Club Roma U15 Boys, and follwed that up with a 3-0 win over Barrie. Unfortunately, they couldn't earn the 3-peat of victories against Stratford on the day, 3 games are one too many, as Stratford was only playing their second. What a great run though!

Hayden with 2 in game one and two more goals in game two, leads the way in scoring. Keagan has added two to his account for the tournament, and Noah rounds out the scoring for Summersiders. Beau earned the 1 clean sheet against Barrie.

In Thursday night news, the Tier 1s were postponed due to field conditions, but the Tier 2s did well to handle the better of two Lambeth sides, winning 2-0 despite some questionable refereeing. Three yellow cards for our quiet T2s makes little sense to the average casual viewer - Alex for standing in front of the ball for a free kick (never an immediate yellow, a simple count out call him back - if he doesn't move, then yellow). Eric for kicking the ball away. Inconsistent messages between Strathroy ref not calling this a yellow in the recent 4-1 loss vs. this one being called - lesson first, next time yellow, per previous ref Joe. And Luke, well I'm sure Luke maybe earned his, he's big and tough, I could understand, but didn't see this one, so let's say the ref was wrong here too ;)

On Tuesday night, in the rain that postponed our SEU T1 team's match on the same Windermere 2 Field, Jaxon and the LTFC boys started well against Alliance FC London U15 Boys, going down only 1-0 and then tying it right up 1-1, on a lovely goal kick, into a equally well-placed near post, low shot, as Jaxon got the best of both the final Centre Back and Goalkeeper slotting it home.

Unfortunately, almost immediately after another mistake on a 45-yard or more free-kick where LTFC GK Roenik, stepped to his left side of goal to deal with a high looping hard kick that bounced in line with the post, then straight into the open right-side of goal, while Roenik was waiting to catch it wide of goal... what just happened there?? No idea, no chance to ask, as the game got away from LTFC and Alliance, and eventually all, with flooding forcing the referee to call it at 5-1 in the 72nd minute. #disappointing result.

Summerside's Soccerfest Story

July 17, 2024

Southend United performed admirably at St Thomas Soccerfest finishing with a 1-0-3 overall record; losing 2-0 to Flamborough-Dundas FC (regional team), St Thomas 2-1 (tier 3), and beating Condors 4-0 on day one to improve the goal differential to +1, 5 goals for, 4 against going into the playoffs on Sunday. However, it wasn't meant to be, as two cross bar hits from Hayden and Keagan, and two straight up power goals from Whitecaps, lifted the latter to a 2-0 victory over Summersiders.

Brewer, Alex, Hayden (2) and Luke all scored goals for Summerside, with assists from Luke (2), Brewer and Noah. One cleansheet for Beau.

Summerside Alumni continue recent skid in performance at LTFC, losing to Windsor TFC Sunday

July 9, 2024

Jaden scored the lone goal in a 10-1 defeat to Windsor TFC Sunday afternoon at Tricar Field. A disappointing result, and one of three consecutive big losses, two shutouts against Kitchener, then Waterloo and now this debacle. Slow and timid play, with only sparks of playing with passion and a lot of rigid uncertainty at the back and in midfield support made for a very long day. Jaxon had the best couple of chances on work with Alexis and Jaden's goal came too little too late in the second, but was a welcome solace for the fan-parents on hand.

In Summerside-specific news, tonight is Champions League Rondo night at White Oaks Park, and here are the past results and line-ups should everyone attend:
