In their 46th consecutive season, the 2018 Oakland Oaks are the oldest team in the PenMar-WV League. The team, comprised of high school, American Legion and college players from the surrounding area, plays its home games at Garrett College in McHenry. Craig Bosley begins his 17th season as manager.
The Oaks have had two of their players reach the major leagues: John Kruk and Tobi Stoner.
Kruk, a first baseman, played for San Diego, Philadelphia and the Chicago White Sox in a 10-year MLB career. He played in the World Series in 1993, retired with a .300 career batting average.
Stoner, a right-handed pitcher, played for the New York Mets in 2009 and 2010.
The PenMar-WV League was founded in 1949 and is in its 67th year. Hard working managers, coaches and dedicated players continue to keep the league going. The Oaks once again tip their caps to President Terry Helbig and the businesses and supporters who allow the Oaks to continue playing the greatest sport around!
