PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Sturino left the Goobers after the 2019 season and has decided to continue playing for his other team that he started with his brother. Sturino was a solid hitter no matter where we stuck him in the lineup. The king of the opposite field chizzler, he has set some records that will be tough to beat. Putting up 46 singles in 2010 and 38 in 2008 rank 1st and 2nd on the Goobers all time season highs. His 45 runs scored during the 2010 season rank him 7th all time. Chicky will be missed, and we hope one day he can put back on the Green. |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Brian Fraser enters his 18th season with the Goobers. It has been a roller coaster of a career for Fras but lately he has been a lot better at the plate. I know last year was a tough one batting .400 in 22 games, but in the 4 years before that he had a batting average that was better than his career average. Fraser may not really care about this however as he just won his 5th career Here for Beer award and has always been a guy who prides himself on winning the fun awards over the stats-based ones. It was also nice to see Fraser make it out to 22 games last year which was his best attendance since 2017. Hopefully Fraser can have a bounce back year and possibly have a season over .500 which he hasn’t done since 2013 (not counting 2021 in which he played just 10 games). |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Danny “The Jet” Taormina has decided to leave the Goobers heading into the 2023 season. He will join Tony and Sturino on the Cleveland Steamers. Danny was always one of the best gloves on the field no matter who was out there. This is evidenced by his record 10 straight Gold Glove Outfield Awards. His work at the plate was nothing special but he was a burner on the basepath and did have a couple years (2013 and 2016) in which he was able to bat over .500. We hope to see Danny back with the team next year but until then we wish him the best playing with Sturino’s team and also joining the two kid club. |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Coach Ploen turned into an actual ball player in 2022, putting up his best BAA, OBP and OPS of his career. The singles machine became one of the most reliable Goobers at the plate and of course this all went to his head. I won’t be shocked if Ploen has the red carpet rolled out and Jerry Howarth calling his walk to the plate on opening day. Ploen will have a lot to live up to in 2023 and I just hope he can continue this solid play (Batting .592avg in his last 44 games played). My favorite part of Ploen’s 2022 was that he showed up to 28 games, his best showing since 2016. Maybe Fraser should get on the craft beer train to turn his game around! :P |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Tony last played with the Goobers in 2019 but he may have reason to come back. Someone is threatening his career Austin 3:16 Award and he is no longer a lock for the last batter role. Franny Pisani has entered the picture, sporting a .190avg through his first 17 games. Small sample size but it would be interesting to see these two in a heated race for the 3:16 hardware. Alas we won’t see it this year as Tony has chosen to stay with Sturino’s team and we wish him the best of luck. Tony leaves just 6RBI shy of the century mark and if only we got more 2013/2014 Tony, he would have been flying past that 100RBI plateau. We just hope he can make it to Goobers Weekend this year. |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
Big Cabo Robo had a huge breakout year in 2022 posting his 2nd best BAA/OBP/OPS and had his best ever Slugging %. The oppo boppo was working to perfection as he was the 9th best Goober to come to the plate last year. This was a huge step up as Rob has a .400 career batting average and he hit 119 points above that. I don’t expect Rob to replicate this great season, but I know Rob is better than his career mark. Batting over .500 in 3 of his 16 years (unfortunately the last time was 8 years ago) shows that he has the ability, but the consistency needs work. I have a good feeling we are going to see another top 5 season from Rob in 2023 and it looks like he will be used a lot more in RF this season with the current roster shortage. |

PLAYER NOTES |
||||||||||
KROB has had a very rollercoaster type career with the Goobers. His first 4 seasons saw him as one of the top hitters with a .514avg. Unfortunately, his next 4 years from 2010-2013 saw him drop to .442avg hitter. Krob would then bounce back with a .498avg from 2014-2018 which included 3 seasons batting over .540avg. The last 3 years has been the worst stretch ever for his career (.357avg) and had his worst batting average year in 2022 by a long shot. Granted injuries were hindering him for much of the season and he did do us a favor by playing to give us the minimum needed on the field. His career batting average has dropped to .467 (.485avg entering 2019 season) so I know he will be fired up to have a big bounce back season and win the Comeback Player of the Year Award. Let’s hope he can stay injury free in 2023 and show us that you can still bat .500 with 2 kids bro. |

PLAYER NOTES |

Chappy had a bit of a bounce back season in 2022 but still a long shot from the man who used to flirt with a +2.000OPS every season. Its now been 5 straight years of failing to even reach a 1.900OPS. The once big threat at the plate has now become more of a subtle nuisance at times and seems more focused on trying to hit slap singles than trying to kill the first baseman. The mindset for 2023 is to get back to the pull swing that used to launch balls onto Kennedy and hopefully find his glove again as his defense has taken a dip in recent years. The chirps of “New Bobby” when Jimmy arrived and the fears that Ryan will overtake many of his records should fuel him into having one of his best career years In 2023. |

PLAYER NOTES |

Adam brought back the big stick in 2022 swatting 5 homeruns across 33 games played. He had gone the previous 3 seasons (65GP) without a single big fly and only 1 triple (3 triples in 2022). He may never duplicate what he did in his rookie season in 2014 but his 2022 campaign ignited a flame in Swazzo we haven’t seen since 2017. Adam was moved up to the 2 slot for much of the 2022 season and it seemed to change the way he approached his plate appearance. He walked a career high 7 times which helped him have his 2nd best OBP year, exactly what we needed from someone in his spot in the order. If Adam can continue to put up OPS numbers over 1.400 I don’t see him moving from that spot anytime soon. |

PLAYER NOTES |

Steve has had an on again off again relationship with the Goobers as of late. Even when he does go out with us his attention is somewhere else (Averaging 16GP last 3 years – Career 31GP/Year before 2017). We miss the Steve who used to show up and take rockets off his shins and just pick the ball up and fire the guy out at first. The lack of dedication is the main reason for the stats dropping well below his career average. There was a time in 2013/2014 when Steve was one of the most reliable hitters on the team. I know it will just take him coming out more often to revive the sweet swinging, smooth pitching, hardnosed ball player he once was. |

Kyle now has 2 full seasons under his belt and looks to be very reliable middle of the order hitter. He really broke out last year after having only 17RBI in his first 32 games played, he would rack up 42 in 33 games in 2022. The BAA/OBP/SLG/OPS all took a dip from his 2021 season, but he still produced very respectable numbers. I would love to see Kyle batting even better than he has and I feel like a .550avg is something he can easily attain if he puts in the work. His defensive play has always been above par and with the shortened roster this season he will be relied upon even more to track down those flyballs in the gap. I would love to see Kyle hoist a slugger trophy this season and I can see him having another big RBI season batting in the 5/6 slot in the order. |

The dreaded day has finally arrived. Ryan has decided to not be an active member on the Goobers this season. There is still hope! A possible move to Stoney Creek could get him the call back up to the club. Ryan tentatively leaves as one of if not the best power hitter to ever wear a Goobers uniform. Ryan has 70HR over his last 10 years, comparatively Bobby only has 53 and the next highest is Josh at 29. Bobby may have been the fastest to 50HR, but Ryan has a chance to be the fastest to 100. (Both average a HR every 14.3 at bats). Ryan also leaves with a team high 33 awards won with a record 6 Iron Man, 5 MVP, 5 Player of the Year, 4 Silver Sluggers, and 3 Cy Young Awards. The man was an absolute beast, and we just hope his wife reads this and realizes how important he is to the team and to just move to Stoney Creek already – Love: The Goobers. |

Bobo is now officially an East Coaster, and we couldn’t be happier for him and his new family. Unfortunately for us we lost Bobo when he was just starting to figure out his swing. A career .444avg hitter his first 10 years. Bobo has upped his average 33 points in the last 6 years (.553avg combined) and really perfected that opposite field swing. I think Bobo and Rob need to give Krob some lessons on how to hit to the opposite field and join the family business of chowing down on some oppo tacos. The good news is that Bobo has joined a softball league this season out East and will be in mid-season form when he makes his annual celebrity showcase game for the Goobers. Speaking of which, with our terrible attendance we should really host a celebrity showcase game where we bring out all past Goobers Alumni to throw on the retros for one more night with the boys. |

Vinny had his Rookie campaign in 2022, despite playing in 6 other years prior to finally reaching the minimum required games to be considered a Rookie. He would have a very lackluster year batting .435 across 18GP but surprisingly the power didn’t get the memo as his slugging percentage was 326 points higher than his batting average. This ranked as the 4th best separation from Batting average to Slugging % on the team last year (Ryan, Bobby, JP were the top 3). If Vierno can boost up his average and keep these slugging numbers going a 1.300+ OPS is very attainable. The speed coupled with the bat would make a lethal top of the order batter, but the consistency will be key in getting there. The defense will also need some work as there is potential of him one day becoming a great utility fielder for the Goobers. |

It just wasn’t meant to be that Bobby and New Bobby would ever co-exist on the same softball team. Jimmy made it out to just 6 games in 2022 after his rookie campaign in 2021 saw him take home the Silver Slugger as the team’s top hitter as well as putting up the best batting average season for a Goobers Rookie in history. Injuries were the reason for the lack of attendance and there is hope he can rejoin the club in 2023. Jimmy and Ryan would add the 1-2 punch this lineup needs to put the best product it has on the field. Unfortunately, the chance of them both not playing could mean an uphill battle for the Goobers. With the writing of this I have gained confirmation of a near 50% attendance rate for Jimmy. You know a Jim or Jim knows you? |

Ariah took a bit of a step back in 2022 after batting .600 over his previous 2 years. His attendance was probably a huge factor for this as we all know when he gets hot he is a tough out at the plate. Ariah comes into 2023 with the 6th best average amongst active Goobers. He knows he has it in him to become a future .600 career hitter and I think his goal this year will be to get back to the top of the lineup. The speed and power that Ariah possesses is perfect for the 2 slot in this lineup. I have a prediction that Ariah will have his first 1.000SLG% this year and that the battle for the top 2 spots in the order will be a heated contest between Adam and Ariah. |

Josh has been pretty decent with his attendance considering he lives about 90min from the diamonds. The thought of having Josh full time would put this team over the edge but alas we have to take what we can get from Tadoshie. His batting average has fluctuated by massive amounts since 2013. Every 3rd basemans nightmare when Josh comes to the plate, Josh has actually been trying to hit all over the field in recent years. His power numbers have pretty much disappeared, averaging 5.2HR per year his first 10 years. Josh has dropped to averaging just 0.8HR per year his last 6 years. All we care about is more Joshie in 2023, the more times we see him, the better he plays….its science. |

JP made his official debut in 2021 winning the Bronze Slugger Award and putting together the 2nd best Rookie campaign by a first year Goober. He followed it up with a solid 2022, leading the team in RBI (51) and also taking home the award for Most Reach on Errors. JP has always demonstrated his ability to cash runners and he has once again locked up his spot as a 4/5 hitter in this lineup. The slugging ability from JP is also starting to take off as he racked up a team high 17 Doubles last year and added 4 Home Runs. Also his 24 Extra Base Hits trailed just Chapman (26) for the team lead. I see no reason JP doesn’t continue to produce in 2023 and I would love to see him once again gun for that RBI title. The Dad strength could one day make JP a Triple Crown winner which hasn’t happened since 2016. |

Franny loves the Goobers, but just doesn’t like coming out to see us I guess? The OG Goober from 2005, Franny took his ball and went home after the inaugural season. Returning in 2021 for a 6-game tease and then giving me his word, he would be better in 2022. 11 games later we are still needing more from Fran Van! Franny has also yet to break out the way we have seen in his Kelly Goobers days. His attendance will get better in 2023 I can just feel it and with that I believe his stats will also improve. I would love to see a good battle between Kevin and Franny for Comeback Player of the Year. All that matters is he’s in for week 1 which can only mean good things for everyone who gets the honor of hanging around this beauty. |

Jon Boodhoo was the latest member to join the Goobers. Being one of the few Goobers to join the team without ever playing a tryout game. Boods had his shares of ups and downs both at the plate and in the field. The one thing that was clear is that Jon was determined to get better every week he came out. He would play 31 games in 2022 to the tune of a .414avg and an 0.899OPS. Boodhoo will try and top that this year and I have no doubts he will smash his prior numbers. The Defense was one of the most impressive turn arounds I have ever seen on a Goober field. Going from a very minimal 1st base role to finishing the season as the teams regular 1 bag. Looking forward to seeing Boodhoo every week as I know he lives for the Goobers. |
