Coming into the season with only 4 returners I would not have imagined going un-defeated in the regular season. We have won an incredible 42 league games in a row, dating all the way back to January 13, 2015 when Graduate Sales beat us 34-32 in overtime. That is an incredible streak! We have won the Goldtrap league for 7 straight years. There are a lot of wonderful kids that played their guts out for us over that span. This team would keep the tradition going in a mighty way on their way to a 35-10 win over Dominquez on Tuesday night at Goldtrap.

We came out from the opening quarter attacking on defense and it led to offense. Jake Watson and Garred Smithson would combine for 12 points in the quarter and Justus Schmitt would knock down a shot to give us a 14-1 lead after the opening quarter of play. Baron Hoyt and Luci Minnick were both really good on defense and caused all sorts of problems for Dominquez. The 2nd quarter we did not play well at all. The hustle was there but we were sloppy with the ball and threw up some bad shots. Gracie Smithson would score 3 points in the quarter and Bennett Alhert would knock down a free throw to give us a 18-6 lead at the half.

The 3rd quarter we would put the game away. Heath Banck and Bennett Alhert both would knock down jumpers and Baron would score on an offensive rebound to extend our lead to 26-6. Jake then would score on a fast break and then knock down a long 3-pointer to give us a 33-6 lead by the end of the quarter. The rout was on and we would cruise the final quarter with the fast clock. The final would be a convincing 35-10 win to cap off an undefeated regular season.

 Our player of the game for this week is Jake Watson. He had his best

 game of the season on Tuesday night versus Geno's Pizza. He scored

 13 points and grabbed down 4 rebounds, while playing great defense.

 Jake had been in a little slump lately but we told him to just keep

 working and giving 110% and he would find his way out of it. He did 

 that in a big way on Tuesday night. Jake is a wonderful young man

 and a joy to be around and coach. Congrats Jake, we are very proud

 of you!

One of the challenges for Coach Chris and I, has been keeping these kids to keep playing hard, despite the blowout wins they have had all season long. We have had to come up with challenges for them with each game to keep them to not let up and stay focused. We told them that Geno's was one of the better teams at Evans, which was not a lie. They are in 3rd place in the league and are very well coached. We told the kids they would present a bigger challenge than maybe any team at Goldtrap has to us all season long. The kids really came out and played well on Tuesday night. We jumped on them early and never looked back on our way to the 8th win of the season. I told the kids one time in the huddle that they were playing defense like hungry sharks. Thus the caption above :)

We came out from the opening tip and would run our tip play to perfection to take a 2-0 lead. Jake Watson was on fire from the field in the opening quarter, knocking down three jump shots to help us build an early lead. Our defense led to several steals that Garred Smithson would take in for easy layups. Baron Hoyt and Heath Banck would also both knock down shots and we built a 16-4 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Geno's tried working the ball down low but Gracie Smithson was there every time to steal the pass or knock it away.

The 2nd quarter we let up on defense and Geno's was able to put up some points with Gracie out of the lineup. Our defense down low was not what it normally is in that 2nd quarter and Geno's took advantage. We did get a basket in the quarter from Bennett Alhert and Hunter Moses. Both teams exchanged a few baskets and we would still hold a comfortable 23-11 lead at the half. I really challenged the kids to take things up a notch on defense in the final two quarters and boy they would do that. We stopped Geno's from getting the ball inside on us and our defense out front was causing all sorts of problems for their guards. Jake would stay hot from the outside, as he knocked down a 3-pointer and two more long jump shots in the quarter. Bennett would sink a couple of free throws and Garred would score on a fast break. We would extend our lead to 34-20 by the end of the quarter.

The final quarter we made sure all the kids got back in the game and we would coast for a 42-22 win. It may have been the best game offensively we have played all season long. We were "red hot" from the field for most of the game. I was proud of how the kids responded to playing in a strange gym and facing what was one of their toughest opponents of the season. Great job Sizz!  8-0 and still rolling...….

 Our player of the game in our game this week versus Noon Kiwanis is Heath

 Banck. He had one of his best games of the season at the perfect time, in the

 league championship. Heath really gave us a huge lift in the 2nd quarter, as he

 scored 3 points and grabbed down 5 huge rebounds. Also his defense was just

 awesome! He forced numerous turnovers and jump balls with his hustle. Heath

 has a great attitude and a wonderful young man. Congrats Heath, we are very

 proud of you!

This was supposed to be the game of the year in our league. Both teams undefeated and both teams have won all their games pretty easily. I really thought this one would be a close game all the way thru, but our kids had something else in mind! I was so proud of the way all our kids played in this game. Our defense was as good as it has been all season and Noon Kiwanis had no answer for it. Let's see how the battle for the Goldtrap Pee Wee League Championship went down.

Our kids came out ready to battle from the opening tip. Our defense was awesome and we let Noon Kiwanis know from their first possession that points were gonna be hard to come by against our zone defense. We made a couple of small adjustments to our defense in practice last week and went back over it before the game. The kids did exactly what we asked them to do and Noon had no answer for it. We knew that Noon Kiwanis had one of the best players in the league in Dallas DeLassus. He really attacks you on defense and likes to attack the middle of your zone. So we tightened up our defense and cut down on the room he had to drive. We hoped that would force him to try and make some difficult passes that our defense could pick off. It worked to perfection and the result would be another lopsided win for our team.

The 1st quarter our defense caused all sorts of problem for Dallas and his teammates. We had several steals that led to a couple of easy baskets for Garred Smithson and Jake Watson. Also Baron Hoyt was a "man-child" in the paint. He scored 4 points and grabbed down almost every rebound in the quarter. By the end of the quarter we had built a 12-2 lead and it was only gonna get worse for Noon Kiwanis.

Enter the "three amigo's"..... Bennett, Hunter and Heath. Those three are as quick as the blink of an eye and I felt bad for the poor point guard that Noon now had in the game. We picked him apart and ran the floor for easy baskets most of the quarter. Bennett would have 6 points in the quarter, while Heath would add three and Hunter scored on a jump shot from the wing. Paxton would knock down a free throw and this one would head to the half with us holding a 24-4 lead.

The last two quarters would see a fast clock and we would coast for what was a shocking outcome. I never expected us to dominate them the way we did. All credit goes to our kids. This team has 10 kids that play their heart out and that is unique. I love the effort they all give and I'm so very proud of the season they have put together so far. Can't wait to get to Evans next Tuesday and see what we can do against a good Evans team in Geno's Pizza. Congrats Sizz on a league championship!

 Our player of the game for our game versus Eastside Animal is Bennett Alhert. He had

 his best game of the season on Tuesday night. He was "on fire" from the field, as he

 knocked down four jump shots and ended with 8 points in the game and numerous

 steals. He plays his heart out and is such a coachable young man. He is a very

 respectful and always willing to learn something new about the game. Congrats

 Bennett, we are very proud of you!

 It took us a while to get going on Tuesday night but once we did, things got ugly pretty quick. We came out very sluggish in the opening quarter and seemed to be pressing a little. We missed several easy shots and our defense was not its usual self. Garred Smithson was able to knock down a couple of shots and hit 4 of 6 free throws in the quarter. Jake Watson would also score on a fast break to give us a 10-2 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. 

The 2nd quarter we really got things going and broke the game wide open. Garred would score 8 points off turnovers by Eastside. Bennett Alhert and Heath Banck were really causing problems for the Eastside point guard. It lead to several easy baskets for our offense. Heath and Bennett would also knock down a jump shot, while Paxton Feight scored twice inside as we would extend our lead to 26-6 by the half. We would outscore them 16-4 in the quarter, as the 3rd quarter would begin with the mercy rule in effect.

Bennett caught fire from the field in the 3rd quarter, as he knocked down three jump shots from the wing to help us extend our lead to 32-10 by the end of the 3rd quarter. The clock does not stop during the mercy rule and the last two quarters went by in a flash. Baron Hoyt would round out our scoring in this game and it would end 34-10. The win moves us to 6-0 on the season and sets up a showdown with Noon Kiwanis for the league championship next Tuesday at 7:30. Both teams come into the game undefeated and it should be a fun time. We better come ready to play, because they are a very good team. It will be a good test for our team and it will be fun to play someone that will give us a good game.  Our player of the game for our game versus Dale Crampton is Hunter Moses.

 He really had a good game against these guys. Hunter scored 7 points and

 grabbed down a couple of rebounds. His defense was awesome the entire

 game as always. Hunter gives everything he's got while playing the game and I

 love his hustle and effort. Great job this week Hunter, we are very proud of you!

At times it may not have been the prettiest of games, but that's kind of the way we like it. In the end, the result was the same and we got a good 30-6 win over the 3rd place team in our league. They came out the opening quarter and played us as tough as anyone has all season. We missed some easy layups and for a while couldn't buy a basket. Our defense done what it does best, cause turnovers and create havoc. Several steals by Garred Smithson and Jake Watson led to easy baskets to help us build a 13-4 lead by the end of the quarter. Dale Crampton tried to get the ball inside to the big man in the middle, Lincoln Dillinger. But we had an answer for that in the way of Baron Hoyt. I told him before the game his main job was to shut down Lincoln and boy he did that in a big way tonight! Gracie Smithson would have 4 steals in the quarter and she refused to let them get the ball down to her low block area. Luci Minnick would also play really good defense and cause several jump balls or tie ups.

The 2nd quarter we struggled on offense to get many points. Hunter Moses would knock down a couple of jump shots from the baseline and hit a free throw to help extend our lead. Our defense was lead by him, Bennett Alhert and Heath Banck. They were once again really good defensively and did not allow Dale Crampton near the basket for much of the quarter. Paxton Feight and Justus Schmitt controlled the paint area and did a great job grabbing down some boards. We would hold a 18-4 lead by the half and would go into cruise control early in the 3rd quarter.

The final two quarter we extended our lead to more than 20 points, so the fast clock was in full effect. Gracie would knock down a couple of shots and Baron would do the same. We would play everyone equal minutes as we cruised to the 30-6 win. The win keeps us in a 1st place tie in the league standings and a date with Noon Kiwanis is drawing near. That one will be fun!

Our player of the game for our game this week versus Preferred Office is Baron

 Hoyt. He has been improving with each and every game and tonight he

 continued that improvement. He scored 5 points and grabbed down 5 rebounds

 in the game as we cruised to a 36-2 win over an overmatched Preferred team.

 Baron is a great kid that always tries his best and is very coachable. Sure glad

 he is on our team. Congrats Baron, we are very proud of you!

I would say we brought the hammer down on Preferred Office on Tuesday night. Our defense         was relentless as usual and the poor Preferred team barely could get a shot off for much of the game. The result would be another huge blowout win for this Sizz team, 36-2! 

The opening quarter would see our defense take over the game from the opening seconds. Garred Smithson, Jake Watson and Luci Minnick were causing all sorts of problems for the Preferred Office guards. On most trips down the floor, our defense would cause a steal and we were off to the races for an easy basket. Garred would score 12 points in the opening quarter alone on just fast break layups. Baron Hoyt and Justus Schmitt were shutting anything done in the paint area and this one was a blowout by the end of the 1st quarter. Baron would knock down a shot late in the quarter to give us a 16-2 lead.

The 2nd quarter our defense did not let up but we were sloppy on offense. We turned the ball over way too much but still Preferred could not even get a shot off against our pressure. Bennett Alhert, Hunter Moses and Heath Banck were awesome at the top of our zone. Heath caused numerous jump balls, while Bennett and Hunter had several steals each in the quarter. Gracie Smithson was grabbing every rebound and she refused to let Preferred get the ball down in the low post area. Paxton Feight would knock down a jumper in the lane, while Hunter would hit a long jumper to extend our lead to 20-2. Bennett then made three straight baskets off turnovers and we would head into the half with a 26-2 lead. 

The final two quarters we made sure all the kids played equal minutes and we moved our defense even further back, trying to give Preferred an opportunity to get shots off. We did everything we could to help but they still struggled to make any shots. By the end of the game we had reeled off 36 points and it could have been a lot more. We would move to 4-0 on the season with a 36-2 win. We have outscored our opponents 164-29 in these first four games. Things are about to get a little tougher though, as we have the tougher part of our schedule up-coming. As long as they keep playing hard and having a good time, it will be a successful season. Go Sizz! 

 Our player of the game for our game this week versus National Family was

 Paxton Feight. He had his best game of the season on Tuesday night. He

 played really good on the defensive end of the floor and helped us shut down

 their inside game. Paxton would also score 6 points in the game and grab down

 5 big rebounds. Paxton has really improved since last year and is a very

 coachable young man. He is a great kid and fun to be around. Great job this

 week, we are very proud of you!

Something has really clicked with this team over the past couple of weeks. Maybe

the competition has not been the best, but the kids are buying in to what we are trying to teach them. Attack, attack, attack on defense, share the ball with your teammates and play as hard as you can. Good things happen if you do those three things. Teams are not prepared for the type of pressure defense we play  and this team may be one of the best defensive teams Chris and I have ever had. Poor National Family was sure not prepared for it on Tuesday night.

We came out in the opening quarter of the game and pressured and harassed the National Family point guard the entire quarter. Jake Watson and Garred Smithson both had numerous steals in the quarter that led to easy baskets for both of them. Those two kids alone would score 10 points each in the quarter. Justus Schmidt

would knock down a short jumper and this one was a blowout within the first couple of minutes of the game. Baron Hoyt would do a great job of running the floor and was a receiver of a couple of assists by Garred to extend our lead. Luci Minnick also did a great job on defense, totally shutting down that weak side wing. We scored more points in the 1st quarter than a lot of teams in our league do the entire game. By the end of the quarter we had a 26-0 lead.

The 2nd quarter would see us keep the defensive pressure on, despite staying behind the 3-point line on defense. Gracie Smithson picked off several passes down low, as National Family tried to feed the ball inside. Bennett Alhert and Hunter Moses were all over the National Family guards. Heath Banck also had a couple of steals in the quarter that led to baskets for Hunter. Gracie would knock down a couple of short jumpers and Paxton Feight would score inside to make it a 36-5 Sizz lead by the half.

The final two quarters we made sure all the kids played equal minutes and we moved our defense inside the paint area. We did everything we could to help National Family out but they still struggled to hit their shots. Baron would knock down a couple shots as did Paxton. By the end of the game we had reeled off 54 points and it could have been a lot more. We would move to 3-0 on the season with a 54-15 win. We have outscored our opponents 128-27 in these first three games. This team is on a roll that's for sure. Hope the Christmas break don't slow us down. 

 Our player of the week for week 2 of the season is Garred Smithson. Garred

 had another good game for us on Tuesday night as he scored 15 points and

 grabbed down 3 rebounds. His defense was awesome as usual, as Coach

 Chris said he probably had at least 10 steals on the night. Garred, which we like

 to call "G-MAN" is a super fun kid to be around and coach. He always gives

 110% and is a true leader of our team. Great job Garred, we are very proud of

 you!

While at times it wasn't the prettiest of games, it got the job done and the kids had a great time. I could tell Dominquez was not anyway prepared for the pressure our defense was going to put on them. We came out and really pressured the ball as soon as it crossed half court. With the lack of size on our team, we are going to have to get most of our points off our defense. We did that tonight in a big way on our way to a 39-8 win over Dominquez.

The opening quarter our defense got a lot of easy baskets from steals and we jumped to a 8-0 lead behind several baskets from Garred Smithson. Along with our strong defense up top, Luci Minnick, Baron Hoyt and Justus Schmitt really played good defense around the paint area. They all caused several jump balls and had several steals that led to easy baskets for us on the other end of the floor. Jake Watson would knock down a jumper to extend our lead to 11-2 by the end of the quarter. The 2nd quarter would be pretty ugly at times. Both teams turned the ball over a lot and it was hard to watch at times. It was not lack of hustle on our kids part though. We finally got things rollin a little bit near the end of the quarter and got Bennett Alhert freed up for a driving lay-up to extend our lead to 13-2. After a basket by Dominquez, Gracie Smithson would score off an offensive rebound to give us a 15-4 lead by the half.

The 3rd quarter our defense continued to make life miserable for the Dominquez guards. We forced turnovers on most trips down the floor and extended our lead even more. Jake would knock down a couple jumpers in the quarter and Hunter Moses sank one as well. Gracie would score in the paint to give us a 27-5 lead by the end of the quarter. The final quarter would be the Bennett and Garred show. Both guys would score 6 points in the final quarter to make this a 39-8 Sizz victory. Great job to all the kids tonight on a tough played game.  Smithson. Like I told the players in the locker room after the game, she was

 chosen as player of the game, not because she scored the most points, but

 because her non stop hustle while out there on the floor tonight. She was

 awesome on defense for us and was always around the ball. She scored 4

 points in the game and had 2 rebounds. But her defense was really good out

 there tonight. She paid attention and really had her head in the game. Congrats

 Gracie, we are very proud of you!
