Explanation of Parent Dual Meet Volunteer Job Duties

 

 

The following positions can be done by anyone unless otherwise noted.

Please read each job description and feel free to contact any Swim Team

Board Representative with questions.

 

Timers (6 Volunteers per Meet)

 

    • Times the race, starting as instructed by the starter and stopping the watch when any part of the swimmer touches the wall.
    • Records times on on timer sheet.
    • Circles the official time (Circles the official time that is neither the lowest or the highest of the 3)

 

Back-up Timer (1 Volunteer per Meet)

 

    • Acts as a back-up if any timer needs to be relieved.
    • No Experience Needed.

 

Place Judges (3 Volunteers per Meet)

 

    • Stands at the finish of the race and visually determines the order of finish of the swimmers. Records the finish order on a slip of paper.

 

 

Stroke/Turn Judge (1 Volunteer per Meet)

 

    • During a heat, monitors swimmers’ strokes and their turns. If a swimmer is performing an illegal stroke or turn, the S&T Judge is responsible for disqualifying them from the race. This position requires formal training. Please let the Volunteer Coordinator know if you would be interested in being trained for this position. We are ALWAYS in need of S&T Judges.

 

Heat Benches (1 Volunteer per Meet)

    • The Heat Benches are where the swimmers are organized by even, lane, and heat. Volunteers for the Heat Benches separate swimmers by gender/age group into their events/heats. They also ensure that they are waiting in the swimmers are waiting in the correct lane.

 

Scorer’s Table (1)

 

    • Responsible for recording the time of the swimmers, after each heat, into our computer scoring system. Responsible for final score of the meet. This is an assigned position.

 

Volunteers Pertaining to Home Meets only

 

Starter/Referee (1 Volunteer per Home Meet)

 

    • Acts as lead official. Responsible for starting each race heat and overseeing the meet. This position requires training & experience.

 

Announcer (1 Volunteer per Home Meet)

 

    • Emcees the day’s events - makes general announcements, announces the race heats which are 

 

Concession Stand (2 Volunteers per Home Meet)

 

    • Assists with the set-up, sales, and clean-up of the concession stand. The 1st shift will need to be available early prior to the meet for set-up. You will be able to take a break from the concession stand to watch your child when they are swimming. No experience necessary. 

 

50/50 Sale (1 Volunteer per Home Meet)

 

    • Circulates among the spectators and sells 50/50 tickets during the 1st half of the meet. No experience necessary. 

 

Runner (1 Volunteer per Home Meet)

 

    • The Runner is responsible for quickly collecting all the slips of paper from the Timer’s and Place Judges after they record times/order of finish for each heat and running those slips to the Timer’s station. This requires someone who can move quickly and keep the pace of the meet on schedule. No experience necessary. We will be happy to train you!
