FED REPORT 24 /// WEEK ONE

Opening Weekend only saw two regular season games on the books, which was odd for having such a calm winter and nice spring - so far. With a new eight division format, there is little room for error for some teams with AAA dreams. Right out the gate we saw a big time game on the schedule with the South Metro Saints visiting the Apple Valley A's.

The A's started out confident with Tim Scott on the mound only allowing one hit and through three innings to go with no walks and five strikeouts. The A's built a 3-0 lead after three. But in a head scratching move Scott exits the game and manager Josh Stoll went to the pen with Herman Soloman who gave up four earned in two innings. The Athletics scored two in the top of the 5th and regained the lead 5-4. When Tony Schaefer entered for the A's, South Metro scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Hank Henry came in to shut down the green and gold for an inning of work. The A's put up a lone run in the top of the 7th but it wasn't enough as Cody Candler held it together just enough to pick up the first save of the season.

Dan Miller had quite the Opening Day, hitting the first homerun of the season and also doubling to go 4-4 with a run and two runs batted in. Tony Schaefer had three hits and three runs, but the former Lakeville Lobo also picked up the Loss on the bump. Josh Stoll had two hits and an RBI helping his cause.

Cody Candler went 3-3 with a double, run and stolen base, he also picked up the Save for the South Metro. Wes Hanson had two hits and two runs scored while Kris MInor and Aaron Breuer had two RBIs each. Hank Henry picked up the Win for the Saints.

New Market Northerns won 10-0 over Veseli. No box score was entered.

Hopefully the weather holds off as this weekend promises much more Federal League action.
